Default Battlefield 2 Discussion - 13-06-2005

Heyyo,

Just wanted to start this topic, see if any of you guys are into this game too.

I just wanna say.. WOW. BF2 is definately gonna be bigger than BF42 and BFV.

I got the demo that was released June 10th, and it's seriously, just that good.

Now, to relate to this forum more: the bot's are INCREDIBLE. They definately rebuilt them, cause they don't suck like the old bots, lol.

They shoot enemies on sight now, no more stare at you for 5 mins and eventually take a shot, especially in tanks, cause yeah, in bf2 they'll use the minigun, or if needed the main cannon to take you out. The bots knew how to shoot the cannon into doorways cause I was killed 4 times like this, nice. Also, they seem to remember enemie's last known location well, as I've poked my head out a few times to launch a rocket at a tank, and then 2 guys rushed in the room not much later when I was just going out to land that 2nd rocket.. ouch. Plus, the cpu usage is very low! 16 bots, all in full action, and my framerate was still really nice.

The physics were really fun to watch as well. The vehicle physics felt very nice as moving unsmoothly with the tank did damage it depending on how bad the impact n' angle unlike the previous vehicle physics that like, at times you could leap off cliffs and not take damage, but the next time you'd die, lmao. Oh, and smoking players is darn fun too, the way when you smoke them with a bullet in the chest and they actually fly back.. that's fun, and smoking them in the leg was cool too as that leg would flop back and they'd do a big faceplant.

er.. man, this could be 3 pages long if I wanted it to eh? lol, so I'll try to keep this to improvements over the previous BF games.

So now, the netcode? probably the best I've ever seen onna pc fps. 64 players, my ping was ~90, and I had almost next to none visual warping, even when inna vehicle! it was fantastic. Plus, if I took a shot at a moving air vehicle n' such? it recorded the hits properly unlike BF42 and BFV where you had to lead your shots to make up for the soddy air vehicle netcode they had pre-bf2. So yes, hats off to dice for making a true sucessor of the previous BF games in pretty much every way.

Post your views on BF2 people!

[EDIT]
Oh! I downloaded the demo from http://www.3dgamers.com/

just make a free account, you get bonus servers to use. with those, I downloaded the demo at around 600KB/s, finishing in 20mins I bet. and for a 546mb file, speed is very good.

Heyyo,

Hmm, I should try that, later today when I get home I'll try joining a server with a ping of excess of 200, let's see if even the high ping buggers can play decently.

What I had to say in my BF thread I made 4 days ago :

The usual unskippable corporate logos before game, then it wants you to either go SP of MP game. I clicked SP, threw me right in.

In short, its fun and probably what most people are expecting. Game runs badly when the map first starts, but 30 seconds in and it smooths out. A whole pile of classes, for both playable teams in the demo (Americans and generic evil arabs). Theres a bonus weapon for each class that must be unlocked, probably can only be done in the full version.

Graphics are so-so, expecially because it won't let me save any of my video or control configs in the menu, so I was stuck with 800x600 and no anti-aliasing.

Gameplay is for the mostpart identical to BF1942, with some changes such as the commander (can fire airstrikes and drop ammo boxes). AI is much improved, it uses all the radio commands and doesn't act quite as retarded in BF1942.

They're still dumb as usual, they fight by running forward blasting. They use vehicles a bit better than before. They won't play as commander. So, basically, they're the old 1942 bots but marginally improved. Considering the budget for this game, as usual the AI dissapoints.

I didn't try online play, as I have a fairly good opinion of the game and I don't want that ruined yet.

So.. Bottom line, go download the nicely bloated 500 meg installer and try it out. Its going to be a good 20 minute addition to my LAN next weekend.

Heyyo,

I am soo observant, it's good to be a moddie eh?

Err.. ai uses commander dude. I've had airstrikes called on me and I was just doing sp.

Btw, online's much better. the 32 player map has a harrier jet (you can tell if a n00b uses it, they hit the throttle, and fall off the aircraft carrier and dies, instead of pulling back to hover up first, lol.. man it never gets old to watch that ) and some helis.

I say the ai is definately improved. Yeah, lots of the time they do just run straight at ya, but at least they fire their guns on sight of enemies unlike before where they usually just ran past you a lot. If you crank up the skill level to veteran, I've seen them strafe while gunning at me. Plus, if you become leader of your squad, the bot commanders do issue you orders that you can choose to carry out for your squad.

I didn't know they used commander mode, I guess I just didn't play it enough. Also I played it only easy, so that'd explain they're lack of strafing and such.

Maybe I just need to give it another shot, but since I already erased it I'll wait a few weeks till the final is released to try it again.

the thing about it runs badly in the first minutes is a common problem.. and the only thing that really fix it is to get more ram.. or maybe wait for som patch to fix it..
less ram more of this..
