You are correct. Legally, there is no such thing as "intellectual property". What the corporatists are trying to do, unfortunately with a great deal of success, is to lobby governments into granting them permission to turn everything imaginable into something that can be bought and sold.
I cannot blame the corporatists, since by definition corporatists want to be able to buy and sell whatever exists. The blame lies with the people who are allowing the corporatist elite to gain way too much power.
An excellent documentary to watch is
THE CORPORATION. The film does a fine job of showing just how insane things have become.
We are effectively allowing ourselves to be governed by insane psychopaths who will do anything (and I mean anything) to make a buck.
Having said that, it is remarkable that many (but not all) of the people running the show are not actually insane psychopaths, but collectively they behave as one.
