Default Photoshop CS - 05-12-2004

Euh, well i got a copy to play with but i can't use Filters when doing a new pic? i mean, it works when i open up an existing pic, i can do fancy effects with it. But as soon as i create a new image, it greys out the filter options. I do have set the image on highest quality and such. Anybody an idea?

you need something to work with in the filters..
and the background dont work.. i dont think..
so if its this..

make a new layer.. paint or do soemthing with it.. and then try filters..

i will try, though i find it odd that even tutorials mention:

- create new image (size 300x300)
- press D
- go to Filter->render

i can't do the 3rd lol.

* EDIT:

i did file->new , 300x300x16bpp image. I create a new layer (from bg or just plain new, did not matter). I draw something on it... i still cannot use layers.

the only thing i can think of is that there could be something wrong when you create new.. like 3gb is set and so on..

what that does D do??

D 'resets' stuff or something for you (color settings). You see the bg color changes , and the fg color changes (on the palette though).

3gb? i will look into that. The odd thing is, i did later:
- open up an existing picture
- cleared content (all white)
- resized to **x** resolution and i could do filters...
- i made some waterish effect just with playing around though Kinda neat this photoshop.

Anyway, i do not want to hassle for just creating a new image so i am gonna look further

what file, colour format are you using? I've had problems with some paintshop functions when I find it set to hls rather than rgb

bio, the tutorials (all of them). Do not say anything more! They simply say:

- create new image (size x,y)
- press d
- do FILTER->Render->bla

so how the heck am i to select something? i have no clue! I don't want to posterize, i want to render! I want to sketch, i want to do all those l33t sunshine effects... argh. You CAN render them on 'nothing' because i have seen it on the tutorials (screenies, etc)..
