I don't think I can always follow M$ as I'm tired to pay M$ each 1-2 years for an update

What I have access to is still only Windows 98 First Edition which is already 7 years old (well, I have a copy of Windows 2000 CD but it's evaluation copy). And I also want to be able to modify & share software instead of being kept at the mercy of M$ so using GNU/Linux is the best solution for me.
I'll keep Windows 98 as a temporary workaround anyways, as sometimes I have to use it.

I don't think so, as GNU/Linux is used more on servers than Windows NT, but still safer and being cracked less than Windows
and I believe unlike those proprietary programs like Windows or Opera (which just draw more users by hiding problems), the more users we have, the more bugs will be found and fixed and the faster the software will be developed.
