Well, you know, in the end my PC was at a point where it refused to boot normally while Steam was installed. I had frequent crashes and shutdowns even without running Steam. All those problems disappeared when I finally uninstalled and deleted all Steam-related stuff, and my PC has been back to normal since then.
You guys do whatever you want, but I won't install Steam ever again. It's had its chance (many, many chances, in fact), but no... thanks.
