UN Security Council reform looks doomed
Reuters article
I don't really think that a reform will happen, since there are so many difficulties... But the permanent members aren't making it easy as well... What do you think about it? (this post has no relation w/ the one in the agora. I just want to hear from BU members, since it has been proved that we are one of the few forums that actually practice the art of the debate) |
Re: UN Security Council reform looks doomed
I think its not going to happen because of the heavy opposition.
I also think that I have no understanding of this subject, and the implications of what Africa is wanting. |
Re: UN Security Council reform looks doomed
in my mind the un is useless. they are more corrupt than you can believe.

But I don't think we should accuse them of corruption w/out evidence... Example: Brazil (link). If ou can, read the "See Also" stories as well. That should keep you up-to-date with the political crisis here. |

i dont like the UN :P, but there have been some incidents i'll go see if i can find the articles i read before.
hey interesting link there. |
Re: UN Security Council reform looks doomed
I do not believe that the UN is corrupt. I do however believe that the UN is way too slow and unable to react. In theory the UN is a really good thing, it is just sad that so many nations doesn't respect it.

Re: UN Security Council reform looks doomed
Saying that the whole UN is corrupt is a bit easy IMO knowing 1°) the corruption level of local politicians and 2°) recent stories of phone line hijacking inside the UN offices by a well known nation.
On the other hand, it is safe to say that it is lobbied. |

UN Security Council Veto Power Even if the veto power was taken away, the nation gangs with the most military power, will continue to veto decisions anyway. The UN is like an unarmed police officer that has to ask criminals for permission and assistance in order to get anything done. Of course the UN itself is not an organization without it's own share of dirty laundry, and give it a big enough gun and it will likely cause a lot of havoc on its own. |
