The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
i just watched discovery today..
they talked about the revoultion of rollercoasters.. what i found intresting is how thye would be able to keep speed and how to make acceration in short distanced.. this tech may be old before it even will be usefull.. but wouldnt it be great to have fast transportations in citys.. skip roads for cars.. take the rollercaster to work.. you can get really high speeds.. you can "drive" in speeds like 160 km and still be safe.. what must be done aswell is some kind of changin track system.. the car will go to the place you want.. without any enteraction from you during ride.. and you wont have to stop anywhere.. all kind of transporation could be done this way.. you could have a special set of "cars" that will only transport.. and they could go by them self.. stop by a end station that someone would wait to get the thing trasported.. or done by machine.. no roads no bad air.. you should be albe to walk and run.. but that doesnt take as much space as a car road would do.. it would use electical engines not inside the cars.. but in the roads.. they dont need to be everwhere.. since they can easely keep speed.. it may be hard to drink while going.. but you should be able to hold a glass of water even in the fasterst speeds.. the rollercoaster ways could be underground aswell in the air.. could be compared with subways.. but this is when step further.. or even 2.. greated speed.. no stops.. and it takes you closer to where you want.. atlest thats the idea.. any thoughts? o_O |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
sounds much like a train system to me, only faster.
I definately think the problem of urban transportation needs to be solved, but I have not a big clue about how to do it. I can't quite relate to the word rollercoaster, since they're mostly driven by the pull of gravity, and i couldn't really imagine a big hill somewhere in a city where every transportationdevice in the city had to climb up to gain speed. You could use boosters of course, but the result would be trains boosted from different locations, running at different speeds and hitting each other. If there isn't a seperate track for each train or cart, that is. If you're thinking about a train either equipped with an engine, or constantly kept in speed by outside forces, then I'm much more positive to the idea. The problem here is that either we have to have predifined routes much like trains and busses today, or else we need to design a system of tracks that are customizable, so you have control over where you're going. While the last system is by far the best, it's also very difficult to make, I think, because you would need tracks to everywhere, and you would need to navigate each train-thingie through a dense traffic, changing either the tracks as you go, or somehow steering the train. so... to sum it up... I like the idea, (if I understand it), but i think it's impossible to make right away. In time though, we'll probably see something like it. Or personal teleports like in star trek ;) |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
well.. i thought about it like have computer system that will guide you.. and the speed will be changed by bosters.. there are 2 kinds.. the one that uses wheels the pushes it forward.. and then the magnetic kind.. that pushes forward..
the compuer will know if one goes faster then the ones infront and break.. also.. boosters could be set here in german train development i heard they are building trains flying on magnets.. that push it forward.. works aliittle that same.. but it doesnt fly.. if this will be done.. a new city might be the first step.. someone rich might build his own city. and people who come visit will have to park outside.. teleports.. yeah.. that would be great.. if the superstring theory actually works.. we could.. not very likely IMO.. |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
superstrings? hah. Better accelerate your trains with magnetic fields and local air ionization.
*edit* bah, forget it if you don't get it. I'm not sure I do myself :D In my opinion the short-term future of city transportation is not rollercoasters but dedicated bus lines, electrically powered. These should not melt with the traffic. Why not use the underground lines ? |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
superstings.. it had nothing to do with my rollercaster thingy.. it was teleports..
yeah why not use the underground lines?.. did i say not to? busses.. i like.. but tracks is faster..and you dont need to go collective.. it costs more aswell.. maybe we will see that in the future cities of mars.. |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
well the city planning for the majority of the human nations aren't really anything special... mainly "random"
hopefully for the future cities of any other non earth planet/moon will be well thought out in advance... |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
well... planned out cities are mostly boring, I think... it's the randomness that makes them beutiful ;)
but you're right regarding the traffic... but why not make an extensive system of free public transportation... I'm sure that would solve the problem to some extend. |
Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
There is no such thing as free public transportation. People will be paying with it in their taxes, and that means higher taxes.
It would although encourage its use, because you'll be paying for your right to use it anyway, so why not make use of your tax dollars? |

Re: The future of city transportations can be found in rollercoasters..
well you're right of course... but then lets call it forced pre-paid public transportation :D
It actually exists in some danish cities... but nowhere near where I live :( And afaik it's a succes. |
