Any way to identify your ram's brand?

Anyone know of a way to figure out what kind of ram you have without tearing you computer apart? I tried doing that earlier, and its label was covered by a heatsink which refused to come off. Isn't there some kind of program you can run that gives you all of your rams info?

You can only get the info if the info is stored somewhere in the RAM card.
I don't think the info like brand of the RAM is stored.

There should be a sticker with a UPC code. You didn't take it off did you? That could void your warranty.

What do you want to know?

The speed?

Or the manufacturer?

Because I think some programs can tell you the speed of the ram... sisoft sandra maybe?

normally there is an eprom on the ram card, so there will be some program to read it. some bios do that as well, but I think there isnt much manufacturer info, just timings and stuff

Anyone know how to take a ram's heatshield off cause this thing ain't comin off, and i don't wanna break it. Reason i'm going through all this is because i want to buy some more ram and have it be the exact same thing as what i already have. Do you think it matters if you mix different brands of ram in the same machine if they are the same amount and speed?

If you were to look at the brand on the chip, it wouldn't necessarily be the same as the manufacturer of it. Can you provide a photo of it?

Also, if you are mixing brands, I would check to see if the chips are from the same manufacturer. Like Samsung or Micron. Make sure the specs are the same, or else there will be huge problems.
