Can a single half-life 2 be installed on more than 1 computer?

Merry Christmas ya little jerks, :-). Anyways, me and a couple friends wanted to play some counter strike soure over the lan. Problem is, i'm the only one who owns half-life 2. So, would i be able to put my copy on their computers and use my cd key? I wanted to make sure it was allowed before i went ahead and did it.

you can't

why?

because you cd key is account-linked. So only YOUR account can use the key. You can't login with your account on multiple machines either.

yep... and if you do it, chances are that Valve scraps your account for piracy :(

All you can do is install HL2 on several machines but NEVER have them connected to the internet at the same time. Else... game over ;)

Thanks, I'll try that. I was wanting to play some HL2 dm multi here.

I'm having a LAN too, and I tried to show my buddies Half-Life 2 and Steam wouldn't let me even play a off-line singleplayer game. That pissed me right the hell off. I gave it temp access to the net so it could "phone home", and it took a bloody long time to update, and when it finished I got off the net and tried again and then it said it wanted access to the damned internet or it wouldn't run.

I hate Steam so very, very much. I seriously regret paying for HL2. I can't help but feel I gave them 65 bucks so that they can choose when I can and cannot play my own fucking game. Sorry if this was a bit off-topic but I needed to vent.

What if i install 1 copy of hl2 on 2 computers, and then use 2 different cd keys, would that work?

You can just use the add a key thing in Steam and have it download it.

It probably asks for the key during the install, so that could work, too.

I don't know exactly, but I think when you start a Steam account, you can add CD-keys. I think you can also right-click on the game in the available list and register they key.

The thing is, I think you actually need the CD to play with the CD version because of copy protection.

Alright, i geuss whatt i'm trying to say is, does the cd have some sort of program that is unique/different on every hl2 cd, that when installed on more than one computer valve can detect it?
