How many of you are switching to HL/CS Source?
Kinda of curious to know how many bot coders are going to switch to Source for their bot projects, now that its out.
Also - for those coding for CS, will you stay with CS (which is supposed to have its own bot out soon), or switch to another mod? I think HL still has a lot of life in it personally. :) |
Re: How many of you are switching to HL/CS Source?
Yep I will
at least once I'll have finished downloading these 6 or so gigabytes of HLČ and CS:S over my 56k connection :'( But I don't drop HL1. My intent is to make my bot work on as much different engines as possible... I hope to get back to it by January or February. |
Re: How many of you are switching to HL/CS Source?
I wanted to vote both. :D
I like plain old HL and ShrikeBot will keep supporting it. Once DOD2 or HL2 MP source comes available i try to make it work for HL2 to. |

Re: How many of you are switching to HL/CS Source?
I don't know. Seriously! I mean, ok, HL:CS Source would be the way to go for RB if it wants to stay alive in the 'far future'. And surely i want to keep going with it on that route. But i don't know about leaving HL. I'd like to get this United Bot thing going :) Getting your bot working on HL1 and HL2.

ya push the maps to a newer "engine" ... i cant wait ...
but ive already had my eyes on a few others LOL |
Re: How many of you are switching to HL/CS Source?
I'm going to stick with HL1... just using HL1 as a testbed to learn AI programming
and as soon as I become a real coder I'll switch to some free engine, like Quake series engine (including those Quake3 engine clones). I don't want to promote proprietary engines like HL series, especially HL2 which contains quite a lot of annoying "Digital Restriction Protection" stuff. |
