I was without my BU goodness for days. There was gaping hole in my life.

Hahaha, same here... :D Well, not quite. But still... something was definitely missing.

The downtime was because of the server. After BU moved to the new server, the problems with broken filebase links began, random new members got moderator status, and from what the Council guys mentioned, many server-side functions (like server access, uploading and server management functions) didn't work, either.
Then it turned out that the server was not well configured, and meddling around with such a confusing configuration would quite possibly have led to even more problems, or stuffing a hole at one place would have caused a new hole to appear at another.
So the server was fully formatted, a totally fresh, new OS distribution was installed and the basic functions were added to make sure that everything works. All functions, features and advanced stuff may still be added during the next days, and one by one. This makes problems easier to trace...

I would have wished that an announcement with the EXACT DATE and estimated duration of the downtime had appeared, but apparently things had to happen pretty quickly.

Well, now BU is bacj up, and I sure hope it's going to become bigger 'n' badder than ever! 8D
