Re: Dvorak Key layout
"QWERTY was designed to add two things to typing: slowness and inefficiency. It was designed to be slow so people wouldn’t be able to type so fast that the heads stuck, and inefficient so that letters commonly used together would be as far as possible from each other, again reducing the chances of getting the heads stuck."
Bullshit!.. qwerty is designed to have the most commonly used letters in good reach for your hands.. or something like that.. |
Re: Dvorak Key layout
afaik that's actually true... but there's a lot of statistics on the net about dvorak compared to qwerty... so check it out for yourself

Re: Dvorak Key layout
also it is hard to learn new keyboard layout, when I am familiar with QWERTY.
Maybe my kids will know both Dvorak and qwerty, but I'm too old to learn how to type :) |
Re: Dvorak Key layout
Did you notice that you can spell typewriter with the type row of a qwerty keyboard?
I have no idea why QWERTY was invented, but hey, it works for me. Also, if the people who designed typewriters did do that to reduce head's getting struck, it wasn't necessarily done to reduce efficiency. |
