Router problems....
Heyyo,
I have 2 computers (desktop, and laptop) both with windows xp pro, and a SMC7004VBR router. And my prob is, my 2 computers will no longer recognize the router, and get their ip addresses from it n' such anymore. I installed the telus highspeed setup cd, and since then? my lan's all messed. You know? usually it'll get its ip addresses from the router, eg. 192.168.***.*** but now it's making up these stupid redicoulous ones that are for the net 169.254.***.*** Any ideas? I'm gonna try the installation cd that comes with the router... I've tried resetting the router several times by unplugging it... still messed, I can't even log into the damn router. you know? the ip address for it is 192.168.2.1? and when I punch that in, it tries to dial my dial up account.... |
Re: Router problems....
try to pull ip's.
Click start Click Run Then type cmd Click ok then a new window will appear in that window type this "ipconfig /release" this should flush your ip now once that is done type this "ipconfig /renew" it may take awhile but it should give you a new IP if it doesn't then you have a connection wrong on the router. Also try this Click Start Click Settings then/or find the Control Panel Click network connections Click Network Setup Wizard You should be able to get it form there if you still have problems PM me with more details |
Re: Router problems....
if you get this IP address 169.254.***.***
Then your DHCP service isn't working anylonger. Microsoft gives these numbers to ethernet cards that fail to get DHCP info from network/router. |
Re: Router problems....
Heyyo,
Hmm, odd, cause my dhcp says enabled when I go into my tcp/IP properties for my NIC, and go into the advanced properties... Yeah, I'll just try the stupid installation cd that came with it.... BTW, I connect to the net through dial up, next month I'll be getting cable internet. Finnaly back to high speed broadband for ThE MarD 8D |
Re: Router problems....
your NIC may very well be enabled to *listen* for DHCP, if your router isn't enabled to *send* it, that won't be to some big avail :)
Your router must be accessable using a HTTP protocol, or at worst, a Telnet protocol. So what you can do is, set up your puter's IP address manually (it's temporary), like, 192.168.2.2 / 255.255.255.0, then fire up your browser and try http://192.168.2.1 if IE spouts an error click start->run, and type "telnet 192.168.2.1" That should at least give you some sort of command line. |

heh, tha's pretty much what the prob was, I solved it... but the prob was I had the goddarn wrong power supply plugged into it... it was my darn ADSL router's power supply.... I now have another reason to add to why I hate telus... power supplies... It's my fault, but I'm blaming telus anywho, they kept billin' me for high speed internet after I tried to cancel a few times over cause I was out of range... :( |
