Why I use bots
 

Years ago I was great at playing multiplayer FPS games with a ping of 400+. I was generally at the top of the server or near the top. I was frequently kicked from servers of course, because most gamers do not have the ability to fathom how someone with a ping of 450 can be a better player.


Then after things got too frusterating having to deal with gamers, I turned to only playing over LANs with my friends and bots. That worked well for a few years, especially due to the fact that there are so many bots out there for multiplayer games.


I've recently moved away, so I stopped having LAN parties, and I got a good DSL connection. Today was the first day that I've really played against anyone in years, and already I've learned to hate multiplayer again. I might not be kicked for having a high ping, but they find other reasons to kick me, such as the fact that I am apparently a "fag" and I "hax".

Its not just being kicked though, its just the general level of maturity that gamers exibit. I know that all gamers aren't twelve years old, but for some reason most of them act like it. Over half of the servers that I played on were nothing more than a buch of bickering idiots, swearing incoherently at the other players.


I often feel ashamed to be a part of this group. Its not because of the fact that we play computer games as a hobby, its the way that gamers as a whole act. I can remember a few years ago I read an article that someone wrote up on how male gamers treat female gamers. The guy posed as a female in TFC, even using the clan tag of an all-female clan. The results of this test were of course less than dazzling. He posted up some transcripts of what chat happened in the game, and I've got to say thats some of the most rape/death threats I've ever seen.

Now I'm not saying that every gamer is a moron, just probably 30 out of 31 gamers are morons. First day back into online pub server gaming, and already I'm done with it. This is why I still use bots, and always will use bots. Its not because I lag, or because I'm not good enough player to play against other humans, its just that gamers have severe social problems.

Yup. It's sad but true. If they don't flame you because you're too good (now that certainly wouldn't happen to me...), they flame because you're too bad or because they have some problems with their lives or whatever.
And I don't think the whole clan and league business made that any better. I can understand that somebody likes to play a game once in while, but as soon as ppl start "training" for the game, it becomes ridiculous in my opinion. Besides, it makes them sooo obsessed about their stats & stuff. They don't enjoy the game when it's interesting and exciting, they enjoy it when they play a map they know perfectly, with weapons they always use, and, most important, WIN. And when they don't, the scream for de_dust while playing on one of the preciously few custom map servers. Ouch!
Nah, 80% of them --> trash can. It really spoils the game. I will enjoy our next little LAN session - 4 relaxed peeps + 12 bots + beer + pizza + great laughter when a bot pwns us all... that's the stuff. 9_9

i do play online. only on one server where there are no whiners: AOS. See the IP at my site. I have no problems there, though it took a loooooooong search to find such a server (i know the story, very well said)

In my day of defeat clan -|G.I|- the average age is about 25. the maturity in the clan is very high. we hate immature players. we have probably the nicest people in the dod community skill matters not to us. just how you represent yourself. this is one of the reasons i moved on to dod. CS has become a real for 12 year olds with a mic. anooyinglittle nubs. or you come across the completly conceded poeple that think they pwn everyone and thier mom. cs is over for me. i hate the people that play it. (no offense to any1) the maturity level is horribly low. and i am afraid it will never recover.

I used to play online when I was playing for real, ya know, like hardcore clan. But that ruins the point of the game, infact it's the same with all games, if you don't have fun whats the point. So I just started playing on LAN with bots.

I stopped playing almost four-and-a-half years ago, except for short stints during 4, 5 and 5.2. As well as an off and on relationship with 7. Bots were being developed by then, and I latched onto them. (Realbot I was very interested in.)


So there's my reason -I'd already stopped playing.9_9

Yeah, there's some really annoying people out there in the mp world. Like, at school I slacked off a lot during animations class n' played runescape (it was free at the time, dunno aboot now..) and I lead some poor, confused kind into the wastelands n' slaugthered him... it was funny as hell, but this kid really hated me after that.. lol, like, later he found me again, n' followed me around saying bad words n' such.... after that I just gave all my stuff to the next confused little wanderer, n' quit the game. :P

Some people can't take a joke... I mean, I did that exact same thing to me bud... but I got slaughtered by people twice my strength as my bud slipped by somehow... lmao, and we both fell off the chair it was soo funny. :)

I'd rather play Halo, cause my clan (dunno if it's still up..) has our own server, n' if anyone gets really lippy, or starts to tk? we ban them. I've seen a few CS servers like this, but not many...

I have many more stories... but I don't wanna sap up the whole thread.... at least all at once. :P

BTW, my Halo clan's not hardcore, we're like our name says: Band Of Slackers. we just hang out, n' frag anyone we see, n' have bitch-slapping wars against eachother... n' then hump any dead bodies.... it's the way mp gaming should be. :D
