overwriting shell32.dll
Hello, I just modified several icons in shell32.dll. But I'm having problems overwriting the existing one cuz it is in use by windows xp. It would be fine to just copy the new one to system32 under dos if the partition is fat32. But how can I do this in a ntfs partition?
thanks in advance |
Re: overwriting shell32.dll
hmm... i had this tool once... called e-icons where i could change system icons... that might be what you are looking for?
but i never tested it with xp, so i'm not certain at all that it would work... |
Re: overwriting shell32.dll
ok i think that is a similar tool with the products from stardock, such as icon packager. unfortunately it can modify most icons but not those in start menu. that's why i want to change them manually.

Re: overwriting shell32.dll
you might be able to overwrite shell32.dll if you reboot windows XP in command-line mode (keep hitting F8 while it reboots and select the appropriate entry in the menu). But man, I DO NOT WANT to be held responsible for any damage caused !!!! :D

Re: overwriting shell32.dll
that still doesn't work, says it is in use.

Re: overwriting shell32.dll
boot from the Windows XP CD and press R key to enter the recovery console. then use dos commands:
copy c:\this\is\a\dir\shell32.dll c:\windows\system32 |
