Is my modem faster or slower?
 
Okay I have a modem (56k i mind you) that connects at 115.2kbs, is this faster or slower than a normal modem? I remembered it used to connect a 42,000kbs (i think, acutally i have no idea). Reason i ask is because when it did connect at lik 42blahblahblah my ping in CS was around a stable 160 with a rate of 3900 now with the 115.2kbs it's not stable at all and starts jumping around for no reason (even when not in gunfight or neone in sight) averaging around 400 with a rate of 4000. Is it just my rates to low?

u can connect at 115.2??? i think somethings wrong wif ur modem....

a 56k modem can't even connect at 56k itself....it's something lower, like i usually connect at 50.6k but highest ive gotten is 53.2k

when i had 56k i connected at 48.5 but jeesus christ :o you cant connect that fast..

well, compressed ... maybe you just download a bigger zip file from somewhere and see what rates you get ...

IMO what connects at 115.2 is just the serial link between the modem hardware and your computer's UART. The modulated link (the phone line) is still at 56/44k.

normally that connection type isnt displayed though ...

and for your ping ... switch off compression, that's not good for online gaming :)

In XP i don't see my 56k conn., the only time i see it in the control panel/network blahblah is right after I have d/c from the connection. In win98 i was able to but in XP it keeps on dissappearing
