can`t see server on my LAN

I Have always Ran CS 1.6 and a dedicated server (steam)on my Win98 box so i could play on my LAN. I had admin mod, amx,and ivpbot installed.

I recently switched to WinXP and set up all the above and all ran well. I mean it isn`t rocket science to install . I start the server type "meta list" all is well...bots join....and i start my CS 1.6 client and i cant see the server running on my LAN....(there are no servers running on your LAN)

I have a cable connection through a 4 port linksys router all the correct ports forwarded and i have no software firewall installed. WinXP`s is disabled.
Is there something obvious i`m doing wrong?

I have always used just one computer. to host the server and connect as well.

Thanks in advance

Re: can`t see server on my LAN

Does it connect anyway if you bring down the console and type

connect your.server.ip.number:27015

?

(note: you can also add this line at the end of your CS shortcut with a '+' in front to see if it works)

Re: can`t see server on my LAN

I tried what you said and no luck.

In the server console it says: adding master server xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:27010

I then start CS 1.6 client brought down console

1. [connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:27010] (That`s what port the server is listening)and it retries then no luck.
2. i also tried [connect 127.0.0.1:27010] then it starts to connect and i get an invalid steam id message.

WARNING: UDP_OpenSocket: port: 27015 bind: WSAEADDRINUSE
NET Ports: server 27015, client 27005
Could not get TCP/IP address, TCP/IP disabled
Reason: WSAENOTSOCK

Thanks for the reply BTW

:RTFM: Already did.

Re: can`t see server on my LAN

???:( Then either you have a wire problem, or your server isn't running at all...

Can your machines ping each other ? What are the IP addresses of your server and your client ? What is the subnet mask ?

Does it work if you connect locally using a HL client from the same machine where the DS is running ?

This is the method i`ve been using all along actually.
It doesn`t work. I get the above mentioned errors.

Thanks alot for the replies so far.

<edit> (1)I don`t have 2 machines | (2) I did a netstat and the server is indeed listening.</edit>

Re: can`t see server on my LAN

if you get this

WARNING: UDP_OpenSocket: port: 27015 bind: WSAEADDRINUSE
NET Ports: server 27015, client 27005
Could not get TCP/IP address, TCP/IP disabled
Reason: WSAENOTSOCK

then your server is not running on port 27010 but 27015
Try again with the default ports
I have WinXP and I run a dedicated server and a HL client to debug my bots
My command lines are:

server
D:\Jeux\Half-Life\hlds.exe -console -noipx -nomaster -game cstrike +sv_lan 1 +maxplayers 32 +map de_dust2 +developer 1

client
D:\Jeux\Half-Life\hl.exe -dev -console -win 640x480 +connect 127.0.0.1:27015

Try this already, then if it works change 127.0.0.1 to your machine's IP address.
