Internet - your rate, your price

I heard the french high rate Internet is the cheapest of the world.
For example you can find here ADSL 512k for less than 20 euros, 1024k to 2048k for 30 euros (with TV by adsl, free and unlimited call on phones in France, etc...).

I'd like to use this international forum to know what kind of connection you have, and its price.

Now you know for France (maybe PMB or other french guys wantto add sth...)

Tell us about other countries now.

Ok for germany most people will have no choice
(Deutsche Telekom, state owned company):

20 € physical dsl-connection (just the posibillity of access, no Internet incl.)
30 € Flatrate by Deutsche Telekom
===
50 € per/month for 768/128 with lousy ping of 65+

other Flatrates are starting at 20€, but they are either resellers or do traffic shaping, a 5 GB/month non flatrate would still be around 10 €

extras possible :
fast path (ping of 15-20) = 25 € setup + 2 € per month (rip off ain't it)
1,5 mbit down stream = 25 € setup + ~10€ per month
hardware = 25 € setup + ~4 € per moth (they don't include any hadware apart a splitter)

ah and you need a phone line from Deutsche Telekom too, starting at ~20€ analog (one line) or 24 € for ISDN (2 lines, <=10 numbers).

If you life in a bigger city you have city-carriers, they all have prices like this for dsl wires :
1mbit flat + isdn telephone + all hardware = 45 €
2mbit flat + isdn telephone + all hardware = 60 €

or for cable tv wires:
2mbit flat + isdn telephone + digital tv + all hardware = 50 €

so not cheap, not much choice but good coverage of the country side (i hear cow's in the morning).

im interesset on other countries now :-)

Re: Internet - your rate, your price

well... you have to "pay" a visit to work to be able to use that connection..

stefanhendriks 30-01-2004 22:35

Re: Internet - your rate, your price

hehe, well i guess you always have to pay for that, even if you do not use internet connections. So i'd say his internet connection is for free ;)

Re: Internet - your rate, your price

Here in Canada, for my dial-up it costs 35$ CDN per month for 120 hours. Average speed is about 5k per second download, maybe 0.9k upload.

Unfortunately for me, I live about 5 kilometers too far so I can't get DSL.

Re: Internet - your rate, your price

Since I live in the world's deepest hole, where cows outnumber the inhabitants, I don't have technologically access to DSL... hence I pay €50, around, for a 24/7 connection with my RTC modem, which is "supposed" to be a 56k but stalls more around 33... oh well, patience is virtue... someday... :)

i kinda thought 5 k was around max distance.. i know vdsl is only one kilometer.. i can get it.. all i need is an offer from some company.. dunno the speed exactly.. but it should be about 50 times faster the ADSL..

woah lol nice specs boys/gals i am in north america well southern california to be exact and my dial-up is FREE with www.socalfree.net the bandwith for the free dialup is kinda pethetic
at 4.0 KB up or down but hey its free
however i also use a cable modem in my area with cox.net the latency to my local dns server is like 12 or less ms with an average ping of 30 ms or so on most game servers i have 2007kb down and 257 kb up
ah yes cox in my area is a decent deal at $75 a month with full service cable tv included
