last night it updated my steam.........

but now it wont even login my steam account........it just sits there on my screen and wont login.........

i have reinstalled it a few times and it updates but.........WONT login........

anyone have a clue? i cant continue my work........

I can't even start it !
I launch it and it displays the update thingy but it wont update shit and instead it keeps saying: ERROR eSteamTemporarilyUnavailable

well it wont even login for me.

doesnt say the login server is down........it only stays there and sucks 100 % CPU resources........

then i went to steampowered.com and went to register and it said it sent me a mail.........and its now been 3 hours and still no mail

i even registered my name at their main forum on steampowered.com..and it said a mail has been sent with a link bla bla bla

and that was 7 hours ago and still no mail.......

The last time I tried it, it died with a spectacular crash window. Unfortunately, I couldn't even take a screenshot, because it even managed to display the weirdest mouse cursor I've ever seen: Inside the error window, my mouse cursor was frozen to a position where it pointed at 4 o'clock - and I'm using standard cursors! 8o WTF ???!?
Anyway, I just tried it again... took AGES to initialize, AGES to connect, then showed the message: "Ready to play in approx. 1 hrs 8 min 53 sec". Well, it was ready to play in about 5 minutes nonetheless. 9_9 Too bad that the only success this had was "This game is currently unavailable"... >:(

Arghh... do you remember those days when a patch was
a) tested
b) posted on dozens of sites with SUFFICIENT bandwidth, where
c) people can decide if and when to d/l the patch, making traffic peaks much less likely to happen
d) not something that made a game you fuckin' paid MONEY for "unavailable"?

the june 21st update should have fixed up any probs of the uupdate b4 that..

i had updated it and i kept crashing and loging me out and making me update again but the 21st update works fine now

try start it up and login ..leave it running for 10-15 min and see anything changes ...at max an hour if 56k it maybe that it's updating but hasn't changed windows

um i get steam and steam platform updates no problem no fuss.....then it goes to the login thing...and never does anything. and this frickin login process takes 100% CPU resources as if i were compiling a huge map.

i had to leave for an hour today...when i got back it still hadnt logged in.....just sitting there....nothing

ya my shit has been acting up since that 'first faithful update' im sure if we wait long enough they'll get everything straightened out... or its off to find other ways of viewin my map progress lol

I've not had any problems with it, since I DLed it.
Seems to lag more than WON did though.
I've never updated anything either.
I think I have 2.0 version ?
It works just fine, either way. ;)

i had this problem:

- updated steam

and the 'error' they told they have fixed , appeared for the first time (and kept on repeating) on my screen. Something about the "Game is not available". (CS), I tried. any other mod i had installed, no luck.

Anyhow, what made it work:
- i looked to half-life engine.cfg; removed it.
- i replaced that file with a version of a friend of mine and it worked (since he got it running).

So if anybody has trouble with this, grab a working "half-life engine.cfg" file at (5MB zipped!) http://realbot.bots-united.com/files...e%20engine.zip

To install:
unpack it into steam/steamapps.

the FIX
end the steam process.....

erase all of the .gcf files in \steamapps

then login.....

it will update the platform FILES and will log you in.


[edit] i did that shit....had to reinstall cs ....from my 1.5 and now for the first time i get that game not available error that all others that i never got. i dont know how to correct that one....and i only have platform, cs and ricochet.gcf files in my apps folder....
but when i got in its still unavailable for me and wont update cs or ricochet

ok....this time i opened steam and connected(login)
then i right clicked cstrike game.....went to properties and changed the auto update to no auto update....
i exited with logout.....got back in , logged in fine.......and then changed it back to auto update.....
i let it sit there.and watched my steamapps folder for a bit....and suddenly half-life.gcf appeared.....then i right clicked my cs game icon again and it had updated 1%. so i got out of steam again without the logout.......
when i got back in i double clicked the cstrike game icon and that shit actually began downloading the updates!....and its still downloading so lets see.....

Try this instead:

1) Exit steam.
2) In the main steam folder delete everything but unwise.exe, steam.exe, and writeminidump. DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDERS!
3) Go into bin and delete everything in it.
4) Run steam.exe. Wait for it to update and see if it works.

BTW, this is the way I use to fix the "Steam has caused an invalid page fault in steam.dll" error and it always works for that. I have not tried it with anything else.

ok i deleted my clientregistry.blob ( which i hope you backed up ) now dont get me wrong ive tried this serveral times up intill last night after i read PMB post it work fine... just took forever to update...

It's really odd. Today I tried, and without deleting, tweaking, fixing or changing anything, it went back to normal. I can play fine now, and I didn't do anything but wait.

sorry SF i guess the latest update doesn't fix any problems....

if u do reinstall again...then goto the steam website and dl the latest steaminstall.exe (the 600kb one not the cache files ones )

and use that to update ur games

yeah i've been running steam for 9hrs straight ..i had to re dl the pltform and hl engine ..then just placed back the old gcf files for cs n stuff

but it works ;)

ok next thing is wrong suddenly without warning

in cs none of my menus show up on the screen.

no buy menu
no podbot menue
no waypoint menus

none of the buttons work at all, meaning i cant even join a team to get in any map.

they work in ricochet and halflife and cz but not CS1.6

and i need to make f***in demos!

i erased the platform.gcf, then the hl.gcf, then the hl-engine.gcf, then at last the counterstrike.gcf..... and still no menus

perhaps you want to erase your c:\program files\steam\steamapps\[your@email.com]\counter-strike folder instead of those gcf files :)

and the biggest problem I've encountered in Steam is: I just unable to connect to steam server from time to time

arggg any one lagging bad since the last update i have..on a server i normally get 60-70 ping i get 150-250 wtf i hate steam!

Oh fuck it, I'll only be content if they fix the one giant son-of-a-bug once and for all, this worthless piece of shit Steam itself! I'm just reinstalling it completely because after a sudden crash at startup, it caused my PC to hang when the OS booted, and after several attempts to get it back running, all I got was more crashes - the last one a nice combination of crashes in steam.exe, user.exe and hl.exe at the same time.
That's the seventh reinstall in four fucking months (while my Steam-free 1.5 install runs and runs and runs and runs), and with every day I have this piece of shit on my HD, I wish I could beat all those motherfucking Valve idiots up so badly that even their own mothers (who should never have born them in the first place) won't recognize their idiot offspring. Did you read the news? They said they were going to make 1.5 "available" (read: mostly unavailable) via Steam - ha! All I can say is UP YOURS, suckers!
They can shove that pile of rubbish they programmed so deep up their ass that their friggin' eyeballs start popping out; I've had it with this shit! >:(

Ok, I'm no longer pissed off. In fact, the solution was dead simple. I uninstalled Steam, permanently deleted all Steam-related files, took a hammer, hacked my Steam install CD to pieces, burnt the pieces, and threw 'em away. That's what I should have done in the first place. I can still continue my waypointing stuff with 1.5, and who needs online games of CS 1.6 ? Not me.

This will be the day when I unregister from BU and... hey, wait a second! Well, to be honest, it didn't feel like a great moment of triumph or something like that. You know, I liked playing 1.6. The new weapons were ok, I never understood why ppl argued so much about the shield, I had terrific custom models (way better than those for 1.5) - but Steam and my PC just couldn't be friends. When everything was over, I was just disappointed and still a bit angry... and mentally exhausted.
Now, however, I feel quite a relief, because now I realize how much time I spent just to fix Steam up, and how many days I basically wanted to test something under 1.6, but knew perfectly well that there was some error again and that I didn't feel like fiddling around with it again. Now I can look forward to getting TacOps and learning how to play it (thus showing Valve the imaginary middle finger, har, har).
Oh, and right now, I have fallen in love with SimCity 3000 Unlimited again... it's such a relaxing and different game. Yeay, call me a sissy. I still like it. :P

Steam is starting to walk a fine line here too. Without exxageration at all I can't help noticing the fact that it does NOT work well. And I don't like that.

In France at least there's a law that makes it legal to reverse-engineer a software to make it work yourself when it doesn't (such as porting it to another OS). So when WON will be down I'm not sure yet which side of the politically correct behaviour I'll stand.

someone tell me how to get rid of the weapon model in view so i can fly around my maps without seeing the damn weapon.........spectator mode isnt getting it because the fuckin hud shows up even with the commands that get rid of it.

this frickin r_drawviewmodel 0 command only works while the console is still open so when you close the console the damn weapon appears again.

i took demos in cs1.5 but then somethings dont work....like suddenly some entities are gone.....models dont have see-thru glass (my helicopter in raidernation)(the lilly pads in Madness have black edges that are see.thru in 1.6)
and often the demos are just broken and geekplay doesnt fix then...it ruins them so you cant watch them at all. it even put a weapon model on me when i had it turned off as i made the demo..so watching it with a weapon model there pissed me off heavy because i finally got the right moves down........
