Heyyo,

That should be a good one. I think it's the first HL2 mod that had a news release to the world... unless I missed the CS: Source one news release...

I tried vampires: the masquerade, n' that's pretty cool, hopefully this sequel's al the more better. ;)

Re: HL2 -Which One Will You Get?

dream on guys ;) there WILL be steam. In every package, on every installation. Why?

Because steam is integrated... big time.

And a second good reason: So they can splash up 'new mods for HL 2' every time yo ustart that damn program to earn more money... yay.

STEAM is the ultimate 'marketing strategy' for Valve. They don't need a distributor. They just send you the bytes and you send the dollars/euro's. Simple, and more profit for Valve. (ie, same data but more money ratio).

Besides, in STEAM there are dll's which are used in every HL/HL2 game now. You should try to run a game from Steam without it. Ie, remove STEAM core or whatever and try to run HL.exe and such, ie, the counter-strike directory in the steamapps; this EXE file is not like the 'normal' hl.exe file you would run to have it standalone.

Either way; STEAM will be in, period ;)

Heyyo,

Yeah, I'm not too big of a steam fan myself, but hey, sometimes you just gotta suck in that gut, n' just live with it. Cause most non-steam versions are illegal anywho, n' I can live with little popups... as long as they don't start filling steam with ads, I'll keep using it with some content. And for the friends list? I stopped using that like, a few months ago, it's useless cause you get booted all the time. Me n' me buds just fire up good ol' xfire. it does the job, no complaints here. :)

If you don't have xfire, I suggest you get it. It allows you to join any mp game a friend's playing on by just 1 click of a button. It supports many games. HL, CS, Far Cry, Doom3, Quake3, BF1942, etc. MANY games. Plus now if you've gotta bud in TS, you can jump onto their TS server with a button click too... but it doesn't support leaping into channels, n' channels with passwords yet. Heh, I kindof feel like I'm now spamming aboot xfire, but it's good. :P

Heyyo,

As long as you don't need to get the updates for HL2 mods through steam? it'll be ok. Cause I think we all remember what happened when they just started up steam, don't we? :P

Yeah, but don't you have to pay for all seeing eye? xfire's free. ;)

Re: HL2 -Which One Will You Get?

Hmm... now what's true? Do you login ONCE and that's it? Or does Steam start automatically every time you boot up your PC and connects to Valve to authenticate / register or whatever it is?

Anyway, it's sufficient for me if Steam needs to be installed because the last time I had it freshly installed, it made my PC crash (not during an update or a game, not because of a temporarily f*cked up Valve server, just because it was installed and got loaded). Besides, it's not necessary. I see Steam more as a marketing platform than anything else. So the equation stays simple for me:
HL2 - Steam = buy when it's cheap enough
HL2 + Steam = no, thanks.
