lmao @ Cpl. Shrike... :D
Alexander_the_L33t... lol! Hm, Arthur Dent... another one of those Douglas Adams readers, huh?
Well, I called a bot "Harun Al-RushIt"... but sometimes it's not so much the name that makes it funny, but just how the name sounds or what's behind ot - or the general impression. Take Pierre's approach: Those old texts aren't funny at all, but the combination is hilarious!
Some more of my favourites are "Killing you softly" and "Fraggermeister" (which is phonetically 99% identical to "Jägermeister", a famous German liquor...). Most other names I have are funny if you're German, but the gag gets lost in any other language. 9_9

@ PMB: Thanks for the info, that was quite interesting! I don't speak french, but with Latin and Spanish knowledge it's not too difficult to get at least a general idea of some passages. That first text really was half Latin! Was this really "officially" French or still Occidental?

Is it really possible to forget names like Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Tricia McMillan (aka Trillian) and of course Marvin, the depressed android?! :D
I recently dug one of the books out of my shelf again, flipped two or three pages, and 3 or 4 hours later I discovered that a) I had read the entire book again and b) it was kind of late... *g*
So much from these books has been taken over by others. Wasn't a mapper or texturer involved in the making of as_iraq and cs_iraq who called himself Zaphod Beeblebrox? And Trillian is the name of a chat tool now. Not to forget Bablefish, the translation site - it has its name from that little fish you had to slide into your ear, where it lived from your brain waves and translated any language into your own... 9_9
It's a good thing, though, that the bots here on this forum are not like Marvin from HGTTG - they'd all commit suicide at round start! :D
