Ok, i succeded t download Steamupdate (early in the morning 9_9 )
1. This Update took me about a maximum of 5 minutes to download (3x 100%) 2. You have to log in ONCE (!) to use offline mode, thats atm the biggest problem ... (don't dare to delete "clientregistry.blob" that would undo your login ... ;) ) 2. Once logged in you you can disconnect or what else you want and just restart steam (I advise you to disconnect, for otherwise steam WILL try to connect :( ) 3. When starting Steam it trys to find Valve (*urks*) Content Servers and after a while it ask you to retry or work offline ... So download have fun and play ... gl and hf @ all 8) --- For the once having probs, ask me perhabs I can help you ... |
Re: CS 1.6 gets LAN Version (Official this time ;) )
What about Deciated Servers??? Or is this only on the client side?
|
Re: CS 1.6 gets LAN Version (Official this time ;) )
Think it's clientside as you can make dedicated servers LAN only.

Re: CS 1.6 gets LAN Version (Official this time ;) )
I don't get the way Steam works on LAN. You exit Steam and so it disappears from the taskbar but it's still running as a daemon in the background ? What's the point of quitting Steam then ??? it's just as if our puters were running a little Steam auth service available to localhost ?
And what if I don't trust Steam and don't want this crappy service to run AT ALL ? well, I can't play my games then. Stupid thing. |
Re: CS 1.6 gets LAN Version (Official this time ;) )
Well, during the DDOS attack at steampowered I tried this LAN version.
The trick they do is simple: If you used the "Exit" menu (and not the "Exit and Logout" menu) the steam auth data is kept on your disk. The next time you start steam it tries to connect to the auth server. If it cannot reach it you'll presented a screen where you can select if you want to play on LAN or exit steam... I also noticed the running steam process after "Exit" but it disappeared after some time... |
Re: CS 1.6 gets LAN Version (Official this time ;) )
Oh, that's just great. :| So if I wanted to play 1.6 offline, all I'd have to do would be a. run one storey down and shut off the router, which would cut all 3 computers in our house off the internet and disable the LAN interconnection between them, b. run back up and fire up STEAM, c. wait till it has finally realized that "STEAM call home" is not available right now, and d. answer that in this case I'd like to play offline, pretty please?
HOW STUPID IS THAT???? >:( >:( >:( Would it be too much to ask that Valve offer a startup screen where you can select "go online and find 1.6 servers" or "play offline on LAN" ? The sad thing is, I suspect it IS too much to ask... :( But what if I installed my trusty old ZoneAlarm and told it in the "program control" section that STEAM always has to ask for my permission in order to access the 'net? In this case ZA ought to prompt me with a screen "STEAM is trying to access the internet. Do you want to allow that?", and if I answered "no", theoretically it should work, huh? Sure hope it does... |
