Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
depends on the country. in germany the main issue is an age difference of >4 years, if not both are older than 18 ...
anyway, it's basically a bithday like every else, just one year nearer to death |

Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
Actually what's interesting to me these days is politics, especially the ramble about the European constitution that's about to be voted in my country. But because of our rules I don't know if I can allow myself to launch the debate here. Anyway, that topic is on my mind for a couple weeks already and apart that I confess that I don't have much interesting input for the forum at the moment. Bah.

Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
the way i see it:
basicly europe is already 'one' , it has its european rules, we work together (could be done better though, but hence, there is a start). We have the same money. A european constitution would make it possible to have a true european parlement and eventually be a 'super power' as the US is and so forth. Basicly , i don't know what the real gain is for any country to vote YES for it. Even if you vote against, there is still cooperation... as it is today. Well, i have to vote the 1st of june. I still did not make up my mind. I mean.. If it really does not matter... (as they say...) why vote at all? Why even bother making a constitution? |
Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
I turned 18 a good half a year ago or so. Main difference for me has been the drivers license and the "education money" from the state. By being no better than I was before, I am now allowed to drive and I receive money for going to school:)

Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
First I've heard of the Euro Constitution thing, but I guess its purpose is just to make the cooperation and unification "official", and in writing.
One potential disadvantage I can forsee from unifying Europe entirely is smaller nations getting a bad deal out of it, the larger more powerful nations would have all the say. That happens all the time, the western provinces of Canada get routinely screwed over because of less population compared to the east. Politicians serve the area where the majority is, more votes. |
Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
I will take this all to heart since I ain't got a gf as they are pretty much thick in SCO, a sentence goes as follows:
I like Star.... Sorry what? I do compute... stuff Could you repeat that long word again. So a no go there. And all this talk of uk will go down the drain if we join euro, but as far as I am concerned I see no black and white differences between the euro and uk, so this independence stuff is just a load of gumpf, and as if there is going to be a war between any of the western countries. I can't understand why every country can't get along. I think it could have something to do with the morons in power and the people that put them there. :( Well at least it is a Democracy :D |
Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
I see this birthday thread is getting out of hand just like 99% of all the others :)
Okay, I'm opening an europe thread. Ah, BU :) |
Re: Nothing special about reaching 18?
hehe, really a BU feeling again huh ;)
@ Lethal. I do understand the idea behind Europe. The thing is, especially in economic sence, and in the near future political sense. We cannot be 'one big voice' with all those countries braggling to each other in public. Basicly, we need one big 'united stated of europe' and be 'strong' against the super powers US, Russia and so forth. (China anyone?). If we stay fragmented, we have a problem. Then we can never have a saying in the world when other super nations decide what to do... (ie, like the Iraq issue, etc). |
