Either way, why would it be such an issue if it was female?

The ruling by the Paris court stunned the Parisian media and fashion establishment, which denounced it as an act of censorship contrary to France’s liberal traditions.
In a world where there's only an illusion of free speech, and an illusion of individual rights, then this is the kind of crap that you get. Left unchecked, it will keep on getting worse with time.

Governments go through a whole lot of trouble to convince us that we are free and have rights, but it's all just bullshit if we cannot say whatever we want to say, and we are forced to function exactly like serfs.

what if the only thing we want to say is the things we can say.. arent we free then?

Re: bishops to ban controversial ad

Whether or not that would be free speech depends on what you "can say".

The problem there is that everyone's opinion of whats legal to say differs. There will allways be a minority group making a huge stink over nothing.

SOmetimes it is the "minority group" who claim that it is their right tonot have you giving them information, thus, they are freee. And you are no longer.

Other times as Hang says, a group makes a stink over nothing. Quite often the group that does so is not minority, just the scum of the world.

Re: bishops to ban controversial ad

The censoship issue gets tricky when individual rights are considred. For example, some advertising should not be allowed at all if you are forced to view it. For example, I don't have to watch TV if I don't want to see offensive TV ads, but if I go out for a walk on the public roads, and I am hit with nothing but what I consider to be offensive billboard ads, then do I have a choice not to look at them?

If I have to seek it out, then anything goes, but if I have no choice and it is forced into my view, then I should have an opportunity to get pissed off and complain about it.

in this very example the ad in question had been put to display in ONE place.

I just wanted to point this out.
