I just spended the afternoon making custom lenght and or cross cables.
Ouch ouch my fingers are hurting.
making 4 or 5 cables ok.
But after the 15th it just starts hurting aligning the little wire ends to make em fit in the RJ45.
And it was the hard type (not very flexible) type of cable to make it worse.
Ouch ouch.
The horror. can't see any network cable right now.
I know how that is... Lucky me, I had to make just 2 cables for a ethernet switch I'd bought... Hard type too... 1 from the switch to my computer and another from the switch to my dad's computer...
The computers are one by the side of the other, so a wireless network would be a waste of money...
I don't bother making my own cables myself anymore... fed up with bad quality connections, wiring mistakes and all. It costs almost nothing now, when I need a cable I go and buy some. Except for long cables (>10m) but for all the rest I have neatly wrapped, strong and tested UTP cables made for me by hundreds of exploited asian children who do a much better job at it than me
