Default RACC homepage - 27-12-2003

wahey, first post here

it was just to tell you guys that the new RACC homepage is up at Bots United :

http://racc.bots-united.com

the old site racc-ai.com is still active but it will redirect you to the new one

In the news, err... nothing really big, except maybe that I'm close to release an updated preview of the old RACC (the one with the old source code) so that players have something new to play with... the development of the new RACC is still going well, but as you noticed it takes a helluva time anyway I'm looking forward to the Bots United community to help us developers to lay out a portable standard for our FPS bot developments, to which I'll stick as soon as possible !

Just to bitch people, I'll just say that the new bots already outsmart me on any map on any mod! hehe
(okay it may mean as well that I play like a dumbass, no need to say it loud you there, doh)

oh and BTW check out my new bleeding plugin, you'll love it !

Rofl, why did i want to say that? Being outsmarted by bots is quite cool pmb. I do question what you mean with out-smarting you? I mean, you created them, you should know what they are up to? If not, then i wonder what you do to make them out-smart you.

Well I created them, so I know pretty well all they can do ; I also know what they CANNOT do although sometimes the hazard makes me think they actually do impossible things... we have a well-known tendancy to anthropomorphize things, havent we ? But what I meant is, have you ever had the impression, when you play on LAN, to be the worst player on the network, the llamah of the team ? that's exactly it ; before I was leading the bots on my team, asking them to follow me, asking some to camp here or there etc ; now all I can do is follow them... and OBEY they think faster than me and to obey them is the best thing to do if I want to stay alive long enough to see the end of the round

lol, thats actually quite impressive. Although i cannot guide my bots yet (they simply say "affirmative" but don't do anything with my orders seriously) i mostly enjoy the dynamic change of the game when some serious failures happened in a previous round. Especially dust becomes more fun now.

Good ol' rush to the bombspot b through the famous 3 way will get you killed, and eventually end up with only 2 bots going there and the rest via the tunnel.

What i try now is to play as a lamer and camp/snipe at spots. Then i watch if any bots learned something from it. If they try another way, find my weakness. THis is quite hard for bots to figure out when there are several minor alternatives. I also am thinking off a 'ranked' priority scheme, so the first on the list who carries orders will be listened to, instead of the last one. This means when a bot is at the top 3 , he can order other bots. IN THEORY

Anyway, back to coding

Je ne peux pas attendre pour l'essayer...

Je demanderai l'aide pour mes amis francias (Jerome, Vincent, et Laurent).

And then I will ask them to try the bots out...I have great problems with RealBot, PODbot, and PLBot with Steam and AMX or AdminMod.

*yawn* je resterai dan me lit..

and pardon for the poor French. I am only learning for 6 months..

"Je ne peux pas attendre pour l'essayer"... translation of "I can't wait" (nice try), but unfortunately this expression doesn't exist in french, we say: "je suis impatient de l'essayer"

"Je demanderai l'aide pour [...]" slight mistake here, we say "demander l'aide de" ("de" in the sense "coming from", as the help is supposed to come from your french mates), so we say: "je demanderai l'aide de mes amis français"

"*yawn* je resterai dan me lit.." like in english, there are two forms of future in french, depending on whether it's a future you are just about to experience or if it's a long term future that you are planning for some day, far away. This one you're using is the real, planned, long-term future but paradoxally the *yawn* seem to indicate that it's something you're rather about to do right now. In this case, use the verbal form "je vais", which is almost the literal translation for the "I am going to ..." form, except that in french its meaning is even closer in time, as in you are about to RIGHT NOW (in extenso, you're already doing it in fact - that's what it means). The correct phrase is "Je vais rester dans mon lit" ...ah yes, by the way, the possessive pronouns: my=mon/ma/mes, depending on kind and amount. First two are respectively for male and female kind, singular, last one is the plural. Luckily for you the male and female kinds share the same pronoun in the plural. French is a wicked, twisted, complicated language actually. There is no neutral in french - well, not *exactly* - and every single stupid name must be either of male or female kind. But that's enough for a lesson I guess

nice try anyway, lacks a bit of work but you're on the right track feel free to bug me out every time I make a mistake in english too
