Question What bot for HL and TFC? - 14-07-2009

I've been using HPB_Bot for years on a Windows machine to add some bots to a Half-Life Team-Play server and a TFC server.

I'm converting to Linux now, and having nothing but problems trying to get HPB_Bot to run under Linux.

I also need run AMX-Mod-X and other Meta-Mod plugins on the same server.

So the question is .. what bot's can you recommend? Here are the basic parameters:

- Run under Linux (in my case CentOS 5.x)
- Run as a Meta-Mod plugin
- Can use in Half-Life Death-Match (Team-Play more likely)
- Can use in Team Fortress Classic
- Should recognize teams (i.e not shoot at players/bots on the same team)
- Basic way-points for common HL maps (boot_camp, gasworks, etc.)
- Basic way-points for common TFC maps (rock2, badlands, well, etc.)

Don't need / care about:
- Don't care about intelligence of the bots so much - they are mostly cannon-fodder for practice while waiting for real players to join.
- Don't care so much about TFC goals, etc. - as long as the way-point's can be used setup some basic defense. This is all that was really going-on in my previous HPB_Bot implementation.

RCBot runs both Half-life and TFC.
However, I perfer to use FoxBot v1.7.1.1 for TFC and JKBotti v1.42 for HLDM.

I saw in the RCBot forums some reports of people having the same issues under Linux that I'm having with HPB_Bot. Not sure if that was ever resolved.

I haven't heard of JK_Botti before - I'll give that a shot.

Wow, Fox-Bot? I haven't seen that in a while. I see you mentioned Version 1.7.11 - the last version I see on the Omni-Bot page is Version 0.73? Seems like a different numbering scheme. Which is newer? Any idea who's maintaining it now?

Dr. Evil and I are giving links to the latest foxbot version that is being edited by one of the members here. This was the version number I was given in the email I recieved. I haven't checked to see if the bot is bug free, but the updater seems confident in his new additions and augmentations to the latest Fox Bot.

I have tested JKBotti and they run fairly smooth. And since the bot developer hangs around, updates may be more frequent than in other bots.

Just an update ...

Have JK_Botti running on my Linux/CentOS Half-Life server fine. Love it. Haven't setup TFC server under Linux yet. Now looking for a Linux-compatible bot for TF2.
