Default Language Converter - 01-03-2004

Hi,

I figured this would be the best place to ask this.

I play alot of different mods, and alot of times during the hours I play(early AM EST) there are alot of european people on and we have a language barrier and cannot communicate properly.

So I was pondering the idea of making some kind of plug-in, add-on to translate both ways( english to french and vice versa). I was hoping just to start with 3 languages: english, french, and german. I was thinking it would have to be a hook, but hooks are considered cheats in Steam.

So, any one have any ideas?

You can make this a server-side metamod plugin. All you need to do is to catch the TextMsg network messages, or even simpler, catch the "say" or "say_text" client commands. Perhaps it would be a smart idea to devise a way to use a third-party translation source, such as free web-based translators. You would send them the packets and wait for the HTTP reply to come back *evil grin*

hi , very funy.

i love chating in english,frensh,german,
because i think learning something (it's sure not true )
(and when you can see, i don't have a good english)
when i spend all my time playing .
that why , i don't think it's a good idea.

no, that's an interesting thing.
Translation is very hard. You never writing a
good english, german, french ... there are alway error
or word reduction.

Good chance.
