Default Bot Oppression? - 12-09-2005

I've had to defend bots alot throughout my bot coding, and no doubt some of you guys have had to do the same.

This weekend when I checked the Foxbot forum as I occasionally do I was first surprised, then a little pissed at a poster who claimed that the downfall of TFC was in large part a result of bots, specifically Foxbot, and very heavily aimed at me personally, as if I single handedly killed TFC.

I was tempted at first to just delete the post and move on, but I've defended bots from these types of bullshit attacks many times before, so I figured I'd take the opportunity to rant heavily on the side of bots.

I figured I would post a link to the thread here and maybe get some discussion going about how we all approach people like this, and the the strong hatred of bots from a small but vocal group of people. A hatred taken so far as to be blamed for ruining an entire game, etc...

Anyways, here's the link to the thread.

The reason I stopped TFC was because it just wasn't as interesting as cstrike and was less fun. The only things it ever had were... it came out first and the prez stuff was better than the VIP rubbish later found in cstrike, except for tundra.

Amazing.

I'd be tempted to follow up this discussion and bring the guy here at BU.

imo.. he has no case when it comes to bots...

and if a game dies.. well then its suppose to die.. if the intrest is there.. the game lives.. if money wasnt an issue it would be the only way..

Yep yr all so right, if anything will bring a game down it sure will not be the bots.
And his post is quite rude to you.
Let him have it. >

edit.

Heh i like the part where he hits on valve.
Rofls. valve has no obligation to fix exploits and bugs. You buy the game as is !
Being angry and feeling you been wronged by a company. I can only imagine how he feels about microsoft and there support/exploit fixes. rofls....
For all we know he whined about that to on MSDN or sumting. " the downfall of office 97" because the lack of updates and anti exploits.
I wanted to post in the threat but i had to register, To little time for that now going home in few minutes.

This guy should stop and realise that games decline in fanbases gradually over time, no matter what.

Bots were the reason that I stuck with TFC for as long as I did, I have nothing but respect for their creators.

I stopped tfc mainly cause of the lack of players and i played the game for many years 2 of those years with Hpb-bot and sometimes with the fox bot. the downfall of tfc wasnt foxbot though. or any bot for that matter.

That guy is incredible insane, is wrong on so many points and don't seem to have any life at all.

If he just knew how many time our(www.sandsofwar.net) fans have demanded bot support...Bots for a mod is REALLY something which can help it to get and maintain popularity.
