Default Counter Bot - 01-04-2005

Don't tell me this is the illegal cbot is it? Some guy by the name of "DeadAlliance" has posted in the Steam Forums and the thread hasn't been closed yet so I suppose it's legal right?

http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...5&pagenumber=1

Supposedly it has the same AI as the source bots, I'm gonna dl it later today and check it out.

Here's the direct link to the guys site: http://www.cbot.xmgfree.com/

Illegal .... i dunno for sure i haven't checked my self if it's a real ripoff or he coded it compltely him self. ( the later seems unlikely seeing all the resembelance between how they work. and in his steam forums post he says it's the sc:source bot)
But this bot been posted here:
http://forums.bots-united.com/showthread.php?t=3725

If you are using steam and CS:source you could just as well use the bot that is included no need to install a ripped version over the existing one that is being updated on a regular base.

If this guy would give credit and maybee develop on the bot, extend it, make it better, add stuff of his own, etc etc it wouldend be so bad. IF the SC:source bot was opensource but it's not. :-\

Checking that thread on the steam forums, he admits he used the cracked bot.

I don't understand how you can take someone elses work, hex edit it where it has your name instead of theirs, and then claim YOU made it. I see no mention of Valve or TurtleRock on his site (which, not surprisingly, has to move every other day from the looks of it).
I can't see what he would have really been able to add, change or improve the CSBot (unless hes hooking it and adding features that way, something like AMX?).

I say its a cheap rip, and hes a moron not worth paying attention to, but maybe thats just me. 9_9

Figured as much.

Its kind of interesting how the CS bot community is such a popular target for lamers. I don't recall ever seeing the Q1/Q2 bot community being so obviously ripped off.

I mean that quite a few kids have tried to rip podbot by just hexediting the game DLL and claiming it their own. That was long ago, back in the days of POD-bot 2.5.

OK. I just don't know for that. And this hexediting if I remember was a program that open a .dll file and to edit it you must know verry good asembler. Ok thanks for the explain.

lol, no. You don't need to know assembly at all to hex edit a DLL... if it's only to change character strings

Open the bot DLL, look for a string like "welcome to podbot", and change the characters so that it says "w3lc0m3 to my l33t b0t"

At some point it pissed off Count Floyd and he decided to hide the welcome message in POD-bot 2.5 by XORing it. There has been much less ripping attempts since then
