Default Playing with RACC on hldm, year 2012 hehe! - 25-09-2012

I got a little curious how the great RACC performs on the last update,
that template 2.

I last played it a decade ago on CS 1.4 I think.
It was great at first but it kinda lags on some of the updates PMB released
exclusively on nukebox.com forum members.
Went back to podbot until I got tired of pc games
and played real life fps on the arena of airsoft gaming.

Now I'm tired to airsoft I'm back to pc games haha!
Anyway I've re-installed some of the racc versions I've kept
and later installed the template-2 release.
I'm more into FFA/deathmatch games now so fired it up
on good old HLDM. It was great at crossfire seems the racc
can navigate and find enemies easily here.
At boot_camp since it's unwaypointed it just circles around an area
until it manage to find some exit points.

Template -2 has no observer command so I played with it
on my simpler maps with just some few wall around so I can
check how it navigates. I really want to watch it but I'm too lazy to fire up hltv.
But from what I saw seems it does has some visual sense or whatever
to navigate simpler maps and manage to climb some ladders
and can walk on ledges. Some unwaypointed bots I've played are
most of the time just hugs corners and stays there. Rhobot for example
hugs corners most of the time but it has good combat almost like jumbot or jkbotti.
Racc definitely the best unwaypointed bot atleast for hldm.

RACC'c combat...now here' is where I'm kinda disappointed.
I find it to easy even if their botskill is max out.

Racc talks a lot though I can almost say it's THE TALKING BOT
since it uses lots of sound files. Really cool at first and kinda annoying in the long run hehe.

Really wish I could learn some programming stuff so I can check out
and understand the inner workings of racc and make some improvements
to it since PMB is so busy to life now I just hope someday he could pay us a visit
here soon.

Wow. I haven't checked in on this forum in ages. It's extraordinary that people still play Half-Life deathmatch nowadays or wait... I just did exactly that a couple months ago (agains HPB_bots !)

Actually, I've lost all my work on Half-Life bots when my home server fried a few years ago. I had put that work on the shelf with a persisting desire to continue, but the tasks I needed to fullfill to keep the kettle boiling prevented me to complete that one. Unfortunately now, without source code, it's much less motivating.

I could start over from the release I called "template 2" but it happens that I've learned so much in programming since then, that now I find my own work so outdated ! Mostly in terms of programming techniques.

What I'd love is to get a hand on the old stuff I've released and that I lost, i.e. releases of RACC (and its ancestor PMBot !) prior to the "template" ones, with all their sound files, I recall some of them were pretty fun to deathmatch with !

Now I wonder if I could turn this old hobby into a revenue-generating activity. I'm in a new era of my life where it's hard to afford the time to do anything time-consuming just for pleasure.

I guess that's just what Real Life is about

Greetings to all my old friends. Even though I disappeared completely, I didn't forget anyone of you.

I've only got the 'minimal' release of the pre-template RACC here:

well I also haven't been working on hobbyist open-source projects for almost 2 years - and working overtime all day in a japanese company with all sorts of bureaucracy was much less fun which is too unfortunate.

Hi Pierre,

I'm sorta a new member here, but was frequently visiting the site since it's beginning. Since the days of the nuclearbox and botepidemic, the golden years of bots, heh heh.. But it's still alive here, at a much lower level. I still play games almost exclusively with bots. And people still are downloading the waypoints on a regular basis..

I checked my inventory list of bots and couldn't find what you were looking for, but not everything was documented, and I still have some old PC's & hard drives to check. Maybe we will get lucky?

I spend most of my time these days on the RCbot forums here at B-U. Cheeseh has been doing a lot of updates lately to his fantastic bots. The activity there has been good for better than 6 months now. I'm not a coder, but i'm sure Cheeseh would love to chat "code speak" with you, heh heh... Anyways, you might want to check out what Cheeseh's been doing with RCbot2 on source engine, HLDM2, TF2, & DODs...

I just wanted to say, if you can find the time, please come back, it's great to have a B-U founder pay us a visit...

Best Regards,

madmax2

P.S. Greetings to whistler & genmac too...
