Default Problem on modding bots - 14-10-2006

Hi all guys

I downloaded fritzbot yesterday for the first time and i feel i have to thank the developers for the very good work! Keep it up!

Despite fritzbot works perfectly atm, i got some problem on creating my own bots.
I read the instructions, create the directory "bots" in "fritzbot" and basing on "example.bot" create some testing ones (omg.bot in example )
but when i try to add them during game whit /addbot omg it says

"file bots/omg.bot doesn't exist

i have also read in previous thread to set sv_pure 0... i did and still no success....

any suggestions?

tnx all for the patience

If you are talking about fritzbot ET you can try the following;
Download my testbots file.
place it in your fritzbot directory
rename it to end in .pk3
Then check that you can /addbot AxisMedic (or any of the others).
if that works then unzip the test bots, letting winzip or winrar to create the \bots directory automatically.
Then delete(or move) the testbots.pk3 file from \fritzbot
and try /addbot again.

if you can /addbot a testbot in both cases then presumably either your path or your bot file was wrong.
Feel free to rename/reuse any of the testbot bot files.

For the RTCW version try unzipping a bot file out of the fritzbot pk3 files and rename it. then /addbot the new filename and see.

First of all, tnx for quick answer

Second... i followed ur instruction step by step and:

1 - when i unzip the file u give me, it create BOTS directory but when i moved the pk3 file out fritzbot directory i CAN'T add bots anymore, so i supposed IT MUST be inside...

2 - i thought, ok... i unzip the pk3 and let it create BOTS directory...
. so i modify present .bot files and add more
. THEN i zip all the directory and rename it to .pk3... did but DONT work...

It seems that i can ONLY add bots using your ORIGINAL pk3 file, neither work if create a pk3 file with the SAME name.

So i add/modify bots DIRECTLY inside your pk3 file using winrar tools and ONLY this way it works

is that normal?

in any case i found a way to solve the riddle so tnx u very mutch for the suggestions

if the file you zipped (with winrar) from scratch doesn't work when renamed as .pk3 I would verify the following;
1) The file you created was indeed a zip file and not a rar file ( or a rar file renamed)
2) The directories stored in the zip file are relative path i.e. \bots
3) The bot files are correctly named (not 8.3 limited) no password, etc.(check your winrar default compression profile if it exists).
4) And if all else fails try again with winzip.

you can also use the empty zip file fritzXX.pk3.zip to make your pk3 files

And verify that you really do have sv_pure set to 0!

Hi all. Great mod, I must say. I am trying to edit my own bots and having similar problems.

I used winrar but couldn't figure out how to modify the bot files. How do I actually extract the files and/or modify them? I want to be able to create a bot with the name I want and the characteristics I want, but am having trouble knowing how to extract bots information to modify and creating the files themselves. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would it be possible to make certain bots more prone to crouching using waypoints or something of that nature?

One last question, would I be able to run these bots on a Linux server if the version of Fritzbot is prior to .53? I am running .50 right now. Thanks a million in advance. Take care.

I figured out how to extract and create players. I still would like to know how to make them crouch, maybe something like faking crawl points? Maybe crouching occasionally could be one of the attributes of the players. And I pretty much expect the answer regarding Linux will be no, but if I could find out for sure that would be appreciated. Again, great work guys.

There is no linux version, sorry.

Crouching while fighting should happen randomly right now, but there is no method to give individual bots different tendencies.

Okay, thanks for the reply. One question I have is this. I created all the player files. How do I get it to start with the players on a map already rather than having to add them? I went into cfg's and tried to modify destruction_bots, but to no avail. Any pointers? Also, is there a guide I can consult regarding the later versions of fritz? The one I have came with the 5.0 version of fritz. Also, I see a number of 'latest' versoins of fritz, but which is the latest one, in actuality, that I should download? Thanks in advance.
