Default Another step forward? - 09-01-2005

Hi, I have been playing about with bots for Counter-Strike for a while, and as soon as the HL2 SDK was released I started looking at adding bots to CS-S. Much like the rest of the people here I found they haven't made it too easy for us. However I have managed to make a server plugin which creates bots that can move properly and randomly jump/shoot. The bots also have a very primitive wall detection, (3 trace lines).

Once the plugin is loaded, the command to add the bots, is SCbot_add.
It can currently run 8 bots but it gets a bit slow then. I haven't got the bots to remove properly from the server yet, so quit is the best way of killing them.

If it works for other people I can discuss how I got them to work, and I'll upload my project files, once I've tidied them up a bit.

dll into your counter strike source/bin folder, run CS-S, create a server, once in the game goto the console and type 'plugin_load scbot'. You should get some names appear. Then type 'scbot_add' to add one bot, again for more. I find that I need to kill myself to get them to join fully, but that might just be me.

I read that you wanna release the sources as well, but this seems to go into another direction, and that's ok. I moved this thread out of the developer forums.

when you release your sources, or if you wanna share code snippets, feel free to start another thread in the developer forum if necessary. thx and I'm looking forward how you made them move their heads

Ok, I guess it makes more sense being in this section.

I'll post a new thread just now in the developer section on how I did the movement.

Hi, I tried it and it works perfectly for me (once i figured out that the command should be 'scbot' and not 'csbot' ... I was in a hurry to try the bots so I didn't read your post that well)
They get me every round so now I have to go practise some more ,)
Nice!!

After a suggestion from Stefan, I have made the bots now look in a random direction whilst walking around as before, so they strafe and look up and down etc.
Nothing too exciting
