Heyyo,

Well PMB, think of the bright side, if the official bot ain't that great people will probably search for a better bot.

I'm gonna try to find some AI improvements for BF Vietnam cause the AI in that seems less usefull than the AI in BF1942...

[EDIT]
Lol, by the sounds of it, it reminds me of the official bot for "Join Operations" who ever played this horrible CS-clone?

Like, my fav time was an escort map, you start off at the subways... and I couldn't figure out where to bring the hossie (lol, c'mon, 1st time trying the game, gimmie a break ) 2 opposite team bots see eachother from the tunnels and start lobbing nades... which bounce off the top arc and land at their feet... first was flashbangs.. then came the HE's which one died from, the other barely survived and I gunned him down for being so stupid.

The worst time was when I was an escort on some Spanish map, I had the VIP, needed a medic so I called for one... my medic acknoleges me, runs up and unloads his uzi into me! and then kills the vip, and we lose.... ok, the CZbot may be bad, but Joint Op is the king of bad bots... they don't even move when in combat, they just stand there... so if teammates are inna row, odds are lots of teammates are gonna die before bullets start landin' on the enemys, lol.

There's only 1 upside that I like in Joint Op better than CS: bomb defusal. Whoever here has also played both JO and CS will probably agree with me on this, it's much more intense and entertaining. What happens is your guy picks up the nade, and then plugs in a bomb decoder, it takes aboot 7-14 seconds to decode which wire to cut, then you move the cursor over the one you believe is the right one to cut, and snip. 1 time, 5 seconds left on the C4, my guy plugs it in, I'm outta time, I go to cut a wire, half a second later the bomb decoder points that that's a fake, and the other 2 are the potential right wires... then as your guy goes to cut the wire, I had a split second of "omfg... this is gonna suck..." BLAM!!!! lol, too much fun. I always hoped someone would make a mod for CS invoking this defusal style... hopefully someone does it for CS:Source at least...

To be honest, I totally agree with PMB. I tried this official CZ bot several times. I wanted to make nav-files for custommaps- another dimension for CS-Bots! After several attempts I came to the conclusion that overall the bot just sucks. I think today the whole nav-mesh-system was a wrong decision (far too complicated and weak navigation). The auto-nav-mesh-system simply doesnīt work (only in extremly simple layouts).
Why didnīt they just take the Podbot- made it better here and there- and there would have been a ten-times better Bot that the "Official" CS-bot. I donīt understand this whole thing and go playing with YAPB *gg. (I donīt care anymore and Iīm happy with the bots on bots-united).

Heyyo,

Actually, coconut, if ya diddn't know, at first they hired Count Floyd, the CREATOR of PODbot to create the official CZBot... for some unknown reason he left or go fired from the project (I'm not sure which...) and that other guy took over the project. I say that was a horrible thing. That's probably why the CZBot sucks, they shouldn't have gotted rid of CF. He has proof of his bot-coding ability, and already had a headstart on the bot...

Look at Far Cry, the AI's great, one of the best. Why? Crytek Studios hired TheFatal, creator of the Jumbot to create the bot for Far Cry.

Another trick to get the bots off your ass is the radio commands. Give a "Go! Go! Go!" and the bots are off in every direction. "You take the point!" and "Hold this position!" also work well.
I agree the TOD missions are a bit flawed and I don't think they ever fixed the simple coding typos, things left out, and other easy stuff pointed out by the community.
And PMB, your TOD plug-in idea would work just fine! You may be able to do it without even coding, just scripting and a couple cfg files. I tried substituting Realbot for CSBot in the TOD's a while ago and it worked!
PMB you should design your TOD to add PodBots to the CT team and totally pwn the T CSBots. Wow It sure would be cool to have 3 maps with each of the bots here at BU against CSBot for a TOD! At least all the czero compatible ones...

yeah apparently

CF had did a major overhaul of podbot for cz but then he got fired or something, cz's podbot seems to be scrapped (else we would have seen some similarity between the two), Cf had then taken (but not the actual coz he wasn't allowed), what he had done for cz and made pb v3.0 but then had a hd crash and lost it.

also heard Cf then went to work for westwodd studio's after all that.

CF worked for Gearbox Software, but since Valve moved the development from Gearsoft Software to Ritual Entertainment, CF could not continue with the bot.

I post this on the PODBot-website 13 december 2002:

---

Quote from Valve:

The primary development of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (CS:CZ) has moved to Ritual Entertainment. Counter-Strike: Condition Zero introduces single player gaming to the world's #1 online action game. Representatives from Ritual and Valve will be presenting the latest on CS:CZ during a seminar at the The CPL's upcoming Counter-Strike Championships in Dallas, Texas.

Quote from Gearbox's Randy Pitchford:

Gearbox Software suspended development of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero in July of 2002. Counter-Strike: Condition Zero introduces single player gaming to the world's #1 online action game. Valve Software has overseen development since July. Gearbox is aware of and endorses Ritual Entertainment's involvement. After developing several Half-Life games, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and James Bond 007: Nightfire, Gearbox Software is refocusing its efforts on future technology and more interesting and innovative game play. Gearbox Software will be discussing Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC and our vision for the future of interactive entertainment at The CPL's December 2002 event in Dallas, Texas.

---

And then Ritual Entertainment stop work with the game (as Valve wasn't happy with them or so), and after all this mess, the final bot that came with CZ is made by Michael Booth @ Turtle Rock Studios ( http://www.turtlerockstudios.com/CSBot.html ) as I am sure you alredy know and it is TRS that also is coding the official bots for CS:S

yeah, that's how I understood it, given what Count Floyd told me.
But THIS

Heyyo,

He had many bots on his resume, TheFatal was a shoe in for that postition. I'm sure with all your mods your coding resume must look pretty neat there PMB. I go into PC Support specialist with a degree, and no proof that I do the tech support for one of the Coast Realty offices here in my town... damn, I should've made some kindof contract or somethin'... lol.

No, CF isin't working for Westwood, BUT I do remember hearing that he's making the AI for an RTS game, the theme was coyboys and indians... the name? I forget, I'll try to scavenge around for it...... agh, can't remember, anyone else remember it at least? Bluesman? ???

Yeah...it was a cowboy/indians game, I got a link to it from CF long time ago, but I can't remember the name...I am so old you know...

I also tried to search the Nuclearbox-forums, I know CF posted something there about the game, but I can't find the thread now.
