IRC? what's that?

Computer servuces here have completly disabled and 'fun' network things. I can play games, use MSN, ICQ Yahooo and various java-based chat applets, but no IRC. No Kazaa, no bittorrents etc etc etc etc.

IRC ?
it's the oldest chat protocol that has ever been used on the internet !
Not knowing IRC is like, say, not knowing FTP (no offense meant btw)

I would be VERY surprised that you couldn't do IRC whereas you could do MSN, ICQ or Yahoo chat from the same machine. What you see probably is just the Java applet doesn't work. But you could still use IRC using a normal (non-java) client such as mIRC or the ones we've been talking about here...

oh and BTW the Bots United IRC server is NOT on the default IRC port 6667. That's because the hosting company's router filters out that port. The IRC server had to be put on port 6668, so watch out the config

irc.bots-united.com:6668

*edit* thumbs up to SoUlFaThEr instead... it's him who told me about Miranda

I use mirc for my irc client and if you check the options there is a section that allows you to show mirc in only the systray even when the window is open
