Could you be more specific about that swap issue? The last time I've heard about problems with the swap system was back in early 2.4.x releases...

No i can't w/o making my future staements look stupid :-)
i just know where i want to start searching, and i know what happend as resultof the problem. Im shure it is not the kernel swap subsystem, but the settings, hdd and policy used for maloc. |

BTW: consider upgrading to a more recent apache version this one is very outdated and has a lot of known bugs. But I won't use apache 2.x with php. We had some serious problems with that combination similar to those you've described above (BIG memory leak). |
