Default CPU cooler - 12-01-2004

:'( Yesterday during a stupid manipulation (trying to reduce the noise of the 2 fans by using only one, WTH was I thinking), I broke my CPU's fan AND cooler. Don't make fun of me, please

I have survived by cannibalizing my other PC's fan, but I still need a new one. I'd like a silent one as much as possible, since my computer is in a small flat wood box which is open, and so I've got the CPU fan in front of my nose when I'm at the keyboard. I wish I had a webcam to show you that, BTW

Does one of you guys know a bit of PC hardware ? If so, what fan do you advise me to get for my CPU (it's an Athlon XP) ? So far the best deal I've found is a 18 dB fan for 19€ at http://www.pc-look.com/boutik/produc...roducts_id=759, but if you know a better deal, I take any hint

um, why not just close the box?

Find a fan that is uses ball bearings if possible.

why don't I close it ? because the box is 10 cm high, and if I close it the CPU fan can't breathe

be careful PM! A Athlon XP is very hot! You need to have a good fan if you don't want it to burn! And I didn't find a good fan with so few db... I use watercooling now even if it is very expensive! But mine isn't very good (thermaltake - Aquarius II)

But you won't be able to put a watercooling in your box...

Tell me if your fan works well. Btw how many rpm?

"tell me if your fan works well"
I'm still using the temporary one, which is a Zalman Copper radial. It works surprisingly well, though. About 2000 rpm, I'd say, just by the noise

is this a bot developer desease ? two days ago I discovered that the cooler of my northbridge was off ... dunno why my pc still run stable ... now I put back a passive cooler there and it's quite hot ... dunno how that was possible without cooler

dunno about fans, since I only have 2 x 12cm @ 5V in my system ... but zalman is often quite good, although sometimes a bit expensive ...

my cpu cooler ( quite content with it ) :

yes, it was watercooled, but somehow one of the 'things' you put some metal thru to hold the cooler was pulled out of the mb .. ( dunno all those terms ) and now I cannot put it back there, just the passive stuff, cause that needs 4 places, at 3 are ok, but you cannot fix the watercooler with 2 places to fixate it when one is away ... and somehow I dont like to fix that stuff with glue dunno, maybe later I'll buy a new computer, take the watercooling system there and then I cannot get off the cooler from the northbridge and the mainboard would be useless ... dunno
