Default contact with map - 03-04-2010

hi there, i have a question that seems complex in first place, but probably i dont have all the concepts. i want to create a behavior for the bot, for when it walks to a maps edge or toward a wall; what i want the bot to do is to keep a distance from the edge/wall and also to change the movement direction so it wont try to keep going forward to the obstacle.
since that maps edge/wall is an obstacle

i was reading here that the edge/wall shape information is BSP data, but i only know how to handle things using traces. also considering that the map geometry has many forms. but in this case i dont really have a concrete idea for tracing. maybe you know some math to apply in this case? any help is welcome

Hi, check out the RACC bot code, it uses the map data to generate navigation meshes.
