Every time when Steam is updated, when you start the game - CS crashes. It's because every Steam's update the file mp.dll must be correctly initialized. Don't ask me why metamod doesn't do this (metamod is calling mp.dll so mp.dll should be initialized correctly) - I'm not metamod and HL specialist - if You need this info - about this ask directly to our Metamod's King - Pierre-Marie Baty (I hope this time he get this correctly). All I know to start normal game without crashes after Steam's update - you should follow this procedure:
1. Find the liblist.gam file in Your CSTRIKE directory
2. If this file is marked as "read-only" (right-mouse click and see the properties) - you have to uncheck this attribut
3. Open this file by notepad (or another simple editor like ultraedit..etc).
4. Find one of the strings:
gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"
or
gamedll "your_favourite_bot\your_favourite_bot.dll"
5. Change it to:
gamedll "dlls\mp.dll"
6. Save this file and close editor
7. Start the game
8. If the game is started now correctly, but without metamod plugins and without bots - it means, that new mp.dll after Steam's updating now is initialized correctly
9. Close the game Counter-Strike (steam's windows can be opened)
10. Find once again this file liblist.gam
11. Find the string:
gamedll "dlls\mp.dll"
12. Change it back to:
gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"
or
gamedll "your_favourite_bot\your_favourite_bot.dll" (like before your change)
13. Save and close the file
14. Do right-click mouse to see properties of this file and check the attribute as "read-only" for it
15. Start once again the game
After step 15 the game should start with bots without crash.
@SF - Maybe you can add the attribut "sticky" to this procedure? Maybe You can speak with other moderators of others bot-forums to add by them the link to this our Common Questions's thread about steam's update problem?
Adding this to "wiki" teoreticaly is better idea, but if some beginer is looking for solution of this problem - I'm sure - he will not look to the "wiki" - I made the same - he will look to his_favourite_bot-forum
