downgrading to win 3.11 is not even that weird. There are sets of WIN32 tools so you can run most WIN 95 apps on it even....

well, directx and such wont probably work

And I think Linux/FreeBSD has few virus - but they are just difficult to install and I have tried once but I have nearly lost all the data on my HD

I have heard there's Windows Emulator for Linux, but I don't think that can support 3D games like Half-Life in hardware accelerate mode.

and Half-life is one of them..

that's Win32s, but it doesn't make you "can run most Win95 apps on it" but "a few Win95 apps" all the apps compiled with MSVC 4.0 or later isn't supports on Win32s.

Yes wine for linux does an excelent job.
It can play steam / half-life tour of duty / day of defeat.
It's an hell installing/configuring it.
But opengl is possible on linux running half-life
