Default New Guy, New ideas, New Questions - 06-03-2006

Ok, Im Moddy I have been programming with C++ for 2 years and ASM for about 6months. (Competently) I've recently been messing around with irrlicht and looking at Game programming for about 2 months.

I stumbled upon this forum while looking for Game programming tips. You see I want to help write a FPS, yet I don't think I could do it myself yet.

So, Heres my questions:
  • Is anything happening here? (Seems dead)
  • What is the current plan release-timeline?
  • What languages are being used?
  • Can I help?

this forums are generally about bots, virtual players for games

1. forums are not dead, just not much is going around

2. current plan of releasing bots or projescts depend on the project starter - you better contact with the guy that is the most active in specific project

3. c/c++ are majority, some people write small proejcts in Small/Pawnl language (for AMX Mod and AMX Mod X) , other write in delphi some tools, there are links to one or two projects in Java and Perl with PHP

4. first look around, especially in sticky topics, you may want also look around another forums

Yeah, This is where I learnt about JoEbot, I use it all the time with CS 1.6 now.

1. heh, This forum is really ssllleeepppyy.

2. It appeared there where a few threads here about making a FPS, so I thought maybe this part of the forums had the aim of making a FPS. The Forum Description lead me to believe it to.

3. Good Good! I love C++.

4. I will thanks!

blink blink
yawn
sorry, a little sleepy.....
Anyway, I've been working on an engine in my spare time - which of late has been very very scarce. There's little more to it than an editor for terrain and some texture management, and the beginnings of internal node structure for the engine itself....
Creating it all from scratch, as then I learn more about good ideas and bad ideas in general.

yeah I'll make a game eventually, and probably make a few demo apps as it's created. Whenever I get the time that is.
I'd put it on sourceforge or something, but a 56k modem really isn't the best for that sort of thing, especially one that drops out a lot. Hopefully some more will be done on it in the coming weeks once I've caught up a bit with work.

Moddy if you are interested the team of Sands Of War is looking for a C++ coder for Sands Of War 2. This game is based on the Source Engine(Half-Life 2). If you want to join write to Zacker the project leader.
