crashing various bots

HEllo, I am posting this in the Joebot forum because there doesn't seem to be a general help forum, and Joebot was the last bot I used.

My problem is, I cannot get any bot to work with my CS Retail (43/1.0.0.0). I have tried Realbot and Joebot, in both the standard and Metamod versions. Metamod (1.17.1), by the way, loads fine. When I load the realbot or Joebot dll (at the start of game normally) the game either crashes with an error "SZ_GetSpace: tried to write to an uninitialized sizebuf_t." I also get this message after trying to add bots in Realbot. I have tried running on a different machine, on a dedicated server, etc, and nothing works.

Any ideas?

edit: i realize that the second screen is realbot, not joebot, but i used it because realbot doesn't throw the error until i add a bot (in this case by turning the internet mode on). Joebot fails at startup (possibly because it creates bots at startup?) with the same error.
