does that involve network setup ?
Being infaillible on technical hardware issues is much appreciated. You must be able to diagnose a failure quickly and with certainty.
You must also have good knowledge on how to deploy machines fast. This involves knowledge on how to create Windows install scripts that will install not only the OS but also a full pack of applications without user intervention (i.e. you feed the cdrom into the PC and you let it go, meanwhile you do anything else).
You can also say that you are able to handle well several tasks at once.
You must also be able to setup network installs, and DHCP servers. Basically, you must master any tool that might save an IT some time: DHCP, disk images, network installs, boot scripts, PC anywhere, etc etc.
If you are to maintain PCs for individual customers (not firms) a good bit of patience and pedagogy is needed
"move the mouse, madam"
"where?"
"on that icon right here"
*customer grabs the mouse in hand, lift it and put it on the surface of the screen*
"not like that, madam. let the mouse on its pad and slide it along"
