Default Should i take this job - 28-03-2005

My dad says he can hook me up with some kind of IT job at his work. This is a really big plus because i'm only 18 and still in high school and networking and stuff like that is definetely where I wanna go in life. The only problem is the time, it's from 7pm-7am. I'll only work 3-4 days a week but still, wouldn't this make me an insomniac? It'll start after i'm finished with school, but i just wanna know what you guys would do.

Depends if you want to go straight to college after HS or not.

If you want to work for a few months before getting more education, then I'd say you should take the job. It'd probably be great experience learning about the field before you go and get a degree in it, and the money part is obviously good. Its pretty much impossible for someone with no post-secondary education to get an IT job normally.

You won't get insomnia from working those hours, you get insomnia from lack of sleep and irregular sleeping hours (not sleeping at the same time each day).

Its tough to work a graveyard shift job, trust me on that one. Its not easy to go to bed in the morning at everyone else is just getting up and doing stuff.

But, of course, I'd reccomend going straight to post-secondary instead of working. The longer you go working, the harder it gets to go back to school.

Same as hangfire... I had pretty much the same experience a couple years ago. If it can wait I'd suggest you take your time to finish all the studies you want to do and eventually have a look around you in the same time, as you might find an even better opportunity.

I agree with Hangfire's and PMB's opinion, you should go to college... After all, maybe a better job will be waiting for you...

from my experience I can say that a year of work in some other way like you are used to in school can be really nice and you maybe have a better idea what you gotta be doing or what you dont wanna do any more.
especially the "definately wanna go in life" ... maybe follow some weird idea and just do it for a year, I worked in the care in an old ppl's house for about a year, and I gotta say, i'm glad I did it.

collecting experience is always a good idea, and why not work for some month and then go to college ?
