I see in the recent iteration of Podbot MM, you have the bots standing still so they can actually hit. Which sounds fine, maybe they'll be more of a challenge if they actually hit me.

Now, is it possible to implement more player-like fighting? Some people I see do a strafe movement, stop, fire a burst, then repeat. It's fairly accurate and decent. Others like to duck, stay still, and shoot, or just stand there.

It also depends on the weapon. The MP5 and M3 has always been a run-and-shoot type of gun, while the rifles require much less movement than the others.

I'll see if I can cook something up with what little C++ I know.


EDIT: While i think about it, is it possible for you guys to add a Dev-C++ project file for the Podbot SDK?

As a coding illiterate, I cannot possibly comment on the feasibility of the improvements you suggest. But I like the idea of having bots strafe, then shoot a burst, then strafe back, or duck & shoot... it will require some diversification (if bots were to take the characteristics of different weapons into account, even more so), but it would also make bots less predictable. When fighting an attacking bot, you wouldn't know if that bot will strafe some steps (possibly evading your fire) and shoot another burst at you from a slightly different position) or crouch down and continue shooting at you. As I said, I like these ideas a lot.
If only my CS were working...

Thank you for your suggestions.

The stopping and shooting is only for bots with Sniper rifles and they do not stop completely, they only stop when they're about to shoot.
PodbotMM currently has 2 different combat movements.
One is strafing from side to side.
Two is ducking and shooting.

combat stuff are quite easy to be implemented , I have some for my bot :

1.) Stand still (duck if high skilled)

2.) Move forward + strafe left / right randomly
(make sure no wall on left/right first)

3.)Dont move forward , just strafe left / right randomly
(make sure no wall on left/right first) , if high skilled duck while strafing , just like in POD

4.)Random movement , randomly strafe , duck , move for/backward , jump , etc etc ...

I have more idea if you want me to list them here

for dev-cpp you can download my HPB bot template version at the filebase
you can remove all the files and add in the POD-Bot files. You also need to change the include directory to include the Metamod source code.

seesm the podbot requires more advanced profile of the bot, to b expanded by movement factors dependant to carried weapons

or maybe a simplier array for movement factor depenging on skill
