"gaben" wasn't either

My server's root password is 30 characters long. I defy anybody to brute-crack it

Nah, although I don't know you well, I don't think you'd be that stupid.

@TruB: Word! I mean, c'me on... no need to have the mega-1337, absolutely unhackable super password for, like, my www.talkaboutwhatruinedyourday-forum.com account. But if I were member of a company, running a website (and not just for the shits & giggles!) AND involved in developing a software of any kind, my password would be safe... and I MEAN safe. Sheesh... 9_9

My password would need to be brute forced cracked. It is not a number or letter or name or a combination. It is random. Well, I just thought up a bunch of letters and numbers and decided whether to use caps in certain places.

That's how it is supposed to be.

PMB, 30 characters!? Damn! It'd probably be faster to search through the source code of OpenBSD for a security hole to break root than to crack that.

It makes no difference whatsoever. Sloppy is all that can be said. (Well, along with many other disparaging remarks.)

30 byte password is too easy to forget
what about using a password which is mixed with capital letters, small letters, numbers and signs ? basically 7-8 characters is enough I think

What I do is take two words, mix them together, and throw a number on the end. ie:

Moo + Mall = Malloo62

Things like that are a lot easier to remember than compeltely random letters.
