Default Bots ignore EPB.cfg - 14-10-2007

Pretty much what the title says. I've got configuration options set in EPB.cfg, when I start the game the bots show no sign of having been given instructions from EPB.cfg.

Quote:
Bots will be added to the server until the total number of players (bots and humans) reaches the max_bots value. Each time a new player joins the server, a bot will be kicked unless there are only min_bots number of bots in the game
My epb_max_bot value is 10, max players on the server is 16. In short order, the bots will fill up 15 slots on the server. 1 person will be able to join the game, and then anyone else who tries to join the game is kicked saying that the server is full.

Also, epb_maxbotskill is set to 50. Bots are constantly anywhere between 80-100.

Not really sure how to trouble shoot this as this is the only configuration file that has anything to do with bots.

Yeah try with 10000 bots maybe it will work ? I think that the Half-Life 1 based games max slots can be up to 32.
Anyway what version of E[POD]bot and CS you have ?

Versions. EPOD is 5.2 and CS...I'm not exactly sure what version my server is running. I guess it's whatever the latest is. I've got a Linux server and the documentation for Steam related things on Linux is pathetic at best.

Download EPB

Please contact me via E-Mail (see Link "Contact" in NavBar) if you could provide additional mirrors.
Download current version

This is Version 5.2 of E[POD]bot. It's a standalone version, you can use it without having to install another bot first. It also includes waypoints.

Alright, I think I'm close to figuring out what's going on here...

Using Gentoo's Portage system to install the Steam stuff gives me a confusing directory structure.

/opt/halflife/cstrike/ is where my dedicated server executables lives.

/opt/halflife/cstrike/cstrike is where Counter Strike related software lives.

Aside from that confusion, there also seems to be some confusion as to where EPODBot is supposed to live. Now I have EPODBot and Metamod installed in two places, and between the two places I seem to have 1 successful install.

/opt/halflife/cstrike/addon/metamod and EPODbot/
and
/opt/halflife/cstrike/cstrike/addon/metamod and EPODbot/

I'm going to have to remove one and see which one is the correct install, but I'm a little tired for that right now. The important thing is that one of these two points to the EPODBot config file in...

/opt/halflife/cstrike/EPODbot

I'll finish up figuring it out tomorrow and lay out exactly where everything needs to be in case some other poor soul is trying to get a dedicated server with bots on Gentoo.

Much better is to install the Dedicated Server from the Valve update tool and you will get no confising dir structure.
