To make sure it's podbot crashing Your CS, disable it in plugins.ini (by semicolon at the begining of the line calling podbot_mm.dll) and start the game and check if it crashes, too, or not.
I mean make Your plugins.ini (for tests) so:
;win32 addons/podbot/podbot_mm.dll

Make one test more - go to Your liblist.gam and revert back the line:
gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"
to:
gamedll "dlls\mp.dll"
and start the game again. Let us know if it still crashes or not.
Make sure Your plugins.ini file isn't plugins.ni.txt (but txt extension hidden in Windows properties as the windows option (explorer) "hide extensions for more known file types".

Is liblist.gam supposed to be read-only? And does that really make a difference?

I'm not really sure who started this thing about making liblist.gam read-only.. I've tried it and steam still over wrote it.. so there's no point in making it read-only.. there haven't been any CS updates recently so mine hasn't gotten overwritten in a while..
but if you're using steam you might as well use the new option given to us "-dll" much easier when trying to get someone who doesn't know much about cs to get metamod or other things working..

So KWo and I were playing around with it over aim. And he wound up sending me his metamod.dll file. It was created August 29, 2005. Obviously, if you recently downloaded steam/counter-strike, then the metamod that comes with it is out of date. I recommend going to the metamod website and getting the new dll, overwriting it in your cstrike/addons/metamod/dll folder then try again.

The metamod.dll that came with my counter-strike was over 1 mb. The one that he sent me was around half a meg or so. My older metamod was created august 9th i think it was.

To make this short, reinstall the newest metamod and try it again.

cheers!

I'm surprised if Steam comes with some metamod...
I'm using 1.18.p26 version (optimized by Hullu) and that one I recommend.
