how do you join a server using an ip address

Get into CS, open the console, and type:

connect 123.456.789.123:27015

Or else you can start CS on the command line (in a DOS box) that way:

hl.exe -console -game cstrike +connect 123.456.789.123:27015

You can also use the “favorite servers” feature of CS which is handy.

Run CS
choose play CS
choose net games
click on filter
at this screen check the box that says
“are on my favorites list”
click the “Filter” menu choice to get back to the list of servers.

With this option checked you will only see servers that you have added in as one of your favorites.

To add a server click “add server”
Type in the ip address but DON’T’ press ENTER, hit ok with the mouse.
Now you should see the server you added by ip address.

I only use the favorites options.
The normal list of 30K servers is just too much to deal with.

If you ever want to see all servers again you will have to select filters
And uncheck the “are on my favorites list”
