Default The biggest issue with realbot ! - 31-01-2004

ok here is the deal. I really like realbot, especially after the newer release but the reality is that bots get stuck way too much as of wip 79. even older release ai v1 was less "humanlike" but arguably more playable because bots would just die off quickly and be done and over with. But when they get stuck and all the humans are already dead then every human player on the server (its a dedicated server 24/7 w/8 bots) has to wait until the round end which could be a heck of a long time. Waiting for a bot is unbearable, I am just hoping that this would be the next fix to me bots getting stuck is THE biggest problem with realbot. If you guys have any suggestions how to make bots get stuck less or something.

bots never getting stuck will probably never happen. And i am aware of the fact that the bots in these wips get stuck. But, as in all things, this is a learning process. For me to code this whole new navigation system better, for the bots to know where they got stuck and so on.

Btw, if you don't want to wait for bots, you can always issue the 'endround' command...

dont get me wrong, realbot kicks ass for real. but the reality is that i hardly ever play and there is only a hand full of people on my server who have access to that command. the reason i posted this is that too may people complained about waiting for bots when no admins are on. So for right now i am thinkin to cut the round time little so that average joe doesnt have to wait to play.

ps if anybody wants to check out my server message to aol screen name portlandsnoobs for an automated reply with a current server ip, if you can get on, you will have fun...

i am working on 'server only' commands. This means that i will give you some extra power over the bots. Perhaps i should add a command that will let a bot kill itself when stuck for to long. Its for bad situations only though. THinking about it.

How about:
realbot bluepill [seconds]
where if a bot has been stuck for more than the specified number of seconds, it suicides. 0 = bot never suicides.

someone00101: Something to check out is (mEAn) Bot.Admin it has a cvar that if all the humans are dead the bots blow up and the round restarts.
